What have people done with heater in fully stripped cars? I see a few deleted the heater matrix etc any problems clearing the screen?

On a wet day yes you will have trouble to clear the screen. I went a bit overboard and removed everything bar the matrix last year and its a pain to keep putting anti fog on te windows time and time again.

Another issue aside from clearing the screen is engine temp on a hot day, the matrix will absorb some of the heat from the coolant, and help to lower engine temps by quite a few degrees @Tony Hunter is probably one of the best to explain this, and has also modified the original heater box to allow it to only operate onto the windscreen from memory

I have a little heater from Tweeks, as does @dann2707, that plus antifog works fine.
Yep, works really well and kicks out quite a lot of heat. Will help bring engine temps down as said too.

Ive blanked off two ports though so all the heat is going to the screen for maximum effect. Yet to try it though with those ports bkanked off.

Mine. Not finished yet but you get the idea.....

The little heaters are neat. Adam cup what will you have a switch to run a fan to blow some air on the screen?

+1 for the heated screens. We've got them in our race car and rally car and they are perfect.

Yes or the original control panel.

Yep

Any tips on how you achieved it? Looks exactly what im after! Assuming you just cut the bit off you see in the pic and blank it and then run a simple on/off switch?

I chopped off the front bit and locked the vent flap (inside) in the screen demists position. I will be gluing and sealing a piece of acrylic to fill the gaping hole.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I’d rather do this than open a new one...
Does anyone have a parts list of what’s needed to convert to a race heater?
I’m looking at doing this ASAP and would like a bit more info please

I removed all the heater setup completely, and run a T7 race heater as a windscreen demister only.

It's an electric unit so is wired in, and then uses the coolant to heat the airflow.

Further to what you see in my pic, I added a couple of blanks to blank 2 of the ports, and then run ducting from the other 2 to the screen.

The caps, are 51mm IIRC, so like this, but 2" in size:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Pole...923355?hash=item4b0a64c4db:g:p7QAAOSwRgJXhPLM

The 90 degree elbow hose, was from Auto Silicone Hoses. 13mm inner diameter:
http://www.autosiliconehoses.com/si...ced-hose-13mm-90-degree-elbow-15-colours.html

A couple of 90 degree brass connectors (12mm), and a couple of brass reducing connectors (can't remember exact sizes, but I think both ends are 12mm):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brass-Re...hash=item1c435739e1:m:mc1roHWXId57rmSxiBMaFHQ

Then had some standard heater hose from Halfords to make up the connection between the heater unit, and the existing hoses, along with a couple of lengths of ducting (whatever length depends on it's location/ your setup).

If you do get the T7 heater, just obviously re-measure the connections before taking my word as Gospel!

Anyone got any info on wiring the standard heater to an on off switch just for screen clearing

I cahnged the blower motor/heater box to a cup one (non ac) and then lengthened the main 12v feed, included a switch on the dash and done. Set the heater box to blow straight onto the screen and the wiring runs the blower/fan at max only.

It's a little crude but very effective

That's exactly how mine is set up. Never had any issues with it working

Sorry for needing babysitting here, but been trying to get this to work from a switch for a while now. Which wires is it im splicing into to add a switch?

I took a multi meter to the plug to find a permanent 12v power feed (one of the thick red wires from memory) and then extended it into the cabin, through a switch and back out to the plug on the blower motor. Mine is now either off or on max, and permanently directed to the screen
