Coilovers ... What do people say is best?

  SQ5
You can't go on the theory that more ££££'s = better because Renaults budget for designing the Clios suspension is probably 10x the budget of Raceland's and there coilovers.

I wonder what a full standard setup does cost?

  225 Cup & Williams
I can't comment on any coilover being good or bad is I've never ran them but currently I'm running brand new 172 cup shocks front & rear with eibach sportlines and I think this is an excellent combination/setup.

Also got a camber bolts fitted and a Whiteline arb and I'm very impressed how it has all tied in together perfect for fast road driving and the odd trackday.

basically im just saying the way you put it across is your right im wrong when personally i think its one of those things you cant be right or wrong.

just look at it this way say if a f1 driver or some one of that calibar done a test on both set ups and said the cheap coilovers was better would that make you wrong..

@ OP.

trophy saches suspension with a whiteline ARB with uprated top mounts = epic status.

AST coilovers are ment to be badboi if your a track nut.

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
Based on renault retail prices for a 172 cup

Front shocks £59.40 each
Rear shocks £59.40 each
front springs £102 each
rear springs £102 each

that's £645.60

You are wrong yes.

Danny has just shown you need to spend at least £600 for decent suspension setup, coilovers or not.

Clarkson done a test in a 182 and said it was one of the greatest handling FWD cars ever, I'm sure he'd say adding cheap coilovers wouldn't help.

really... he hasen't he's just showed what the prices are just because they cost £600 doesn't mean anything.

Read what I wrote, you'd need to spend at least £600 for decent coilovers, or you could buy standard suspension. Either way it will be massively better than cheap coilovers.

I've got Ktec coilovers on, set up properly for fast road use, and to be blunt, there shite!

People are kidding themselves if they think there any better than standard...

Bilstein - £742 From motorsport world. Half tempted by the Spax for £653, but would like to hear some more about them.

because i dont see how dannny has 'just shown you need to spend at least £600 for decent suspension setup, coilovers or not.'

Glad you said that, and not me.

so ok you can get coilovers for cheaper than what standard suspenion is but with coilovers their built more focused towards handling than standard suspension as you know renault has to compromise to make sure it appeals to the mass market.

  SQ5
Those are standard shocks, showing that even the "standard" kit is worth more than some crappy £250 set of coilovers, do you really not get it?

Again my earlier point proven, you are normal and got what I meant. Saying that though, I had said several times standard was better than cheap!

Thanks for your honesty Daz :)

The standard cup setup is literally class (and aftermarket) leading in terms of soaking up bumps & providing a suitable amount of roll stiffness on a B road.

The only thing cheap coilovers are is hard. There is far more to suspension geometry than just having hard shocks. They are therefore s***e on the road compared to standard setup (which is optimised for the road by renaultsport at a no doubt significant R&D cost) and s***e on track.

No there not! Standard will be focused more towards handling as they need to make a car that handles well, and they did superbly well, which is why they are epic cars.

Cheap coilovers are made for chavs to get lowzzzz as said earlier, not focused towards handling. This is why they are so cheap, no development cost.

Ive brought some ktec coilovers to try and see if I get on with them as I've never had coilovers before and didn't want to jump straight in at the deep end. If I don't, hello sportlines and arb. If I do, then I'm getting myself some "Danny" Spaxs!

  Audi A5
ok i see what your saying dannyr fair enough, but in my case i found the k-tec coilover to improve the handling due to reduced body roll leading to more confidents to go quicker which makes me think that the handling has improved. surly you or anyone else cant say 'your wrong' to me about that.

  SQ5
I've said your wrong several times, my opinion still stands.

Just for the record my opinion is still correct ;)

Not a case of right and wrong its a fact cheap coilover's are far worse than the standard set up,I know its your opinion but quite frankly you have no idea what you are talking about.
