I would consider the 197 if i wasn´t for that silly gearing. Almost 4k revs at motorwayspeed (110-120 km/h were i live).
Not much tyre or windnoise so the enginenoise becomes very obvious.
Who uses 6th on trackdays or when racing at the lights???
Had a one hour testdrive in a 197 with 600 miles on the clock yesterday, and my mate drove my ph quick(42k). Needles to say my 172 was a fair bit quicker up to 80-90mph, but after that it was close. I would leave myself, in the 172, behind on a twisty road if i was to drive the 197. It feels so...
I have used Castrol Rs 10w-60 for 2years since i do trackdays and the oil gets very hot in the clio, up to 145 degrees! I thought a 10w-60 oil was the right oil to use when running that hot? Am i wrong? Oilcooler is next on my wishlist.
I had to replace the right hand side driveshaft because the cv boot had cracked and the joint was fucked. There was a rumbling/vibrating when turning left and accelerating.

If you know the losses on the rollers you can get pretty accurate transmissionloss figures. When you let of the gas you measure the time it takes for the rollers to stop.

I have had the same problem exept i went through a hedge into a graveyard. Lucky i didnt hit a tombstone. Speed as brake was applied was 10mph:confused: A friend of mine who drives slalom/SS with his 172 has installed a switch to turn the ABS off, otherwise it wont brake while turning hard.
