New project. Megane engined RS200 road car.

Had this for a week or so and outlined my plans for it in my Racecar thread but thought I'd best start a new thread.

Looked around at a few cars before this, R26 Meganes and 197 Cups mainly after being let down on an E46 Alpina and looking at a few tatty E39 M5's I went off them again. I'm still on the look out for another E36 Evo M3 coupe as a 'keeper' but atm I've no road car of my own, just x2 vans and the occasional loan of the Mrs' 3series Touring.
Anyway, seen this and it's 'my' perfect spec. Very early 200 on '09 plate. Glacier white FF with Cup pack, cup spoiler, Speedlines and Recaros. Only done 59k with history.

Gearbox has the usual crunch into 3rd and its due a cambelt so thought I'd just pull it all out and do the now popular megane conversion!

Before all that though, had to get it home and knock the 'ugly' off it.

Roof was wrapped black so that was removed along with the dealer stickers and various cliosport urls and some renaultsport logos on the lower quarters. Goes without saying that the wind deflectors were skipped too, never understood why everyone fits them!

Looking a lot better already. Have s few bits I want to sort, steering wheel needs a retrim and all the interior bulbs are green for some reason! No I don't know why either! Front Pirelli P-Zeros are nearly on the markers and the previous owner has put 2 new budget tyres on the back, some absolute Chinese garbage, I don't understand the logic of having an awesome handling hot hatch and putting £30 ditch finders on it! 4 new uniroyal rainsport 3's are on order. One of the wheels has a few marks on it so might have all four redone gloss black to match the front and rear bumpers and mirrors as the satin black looks a bit strange against all the gloss.

Mechanically it'll get the brakes overhauled with decent pads, fluid and hoses and I'll
Probably just put a set of springs on it to bring the ride height down a touch.
More info on the engine shortly.

I keep looking at doing a similar project. I was going to drop a 250 engine in my r26 but one of my mates made an offer on my Meg so I'm sitting on quite a few parts.....

OE 250 turbo
Hybrid TD04HL 20t
SMF fly wheel
Custom 6 puk friction plate
R26R pressure plate
R26 drive shafts
250 engine with forged rods
Inlet manifold modified to run a r26 TB and do away with the breather solenoid.
Miltek de cat
Brand new Meg 250 calipers
90mm Airtec cooler
Plus smaller parts

All in, I'm missing a set of injectors and an ECU solution oh yeah and a Clio 200

Been and picked an engine up today from a ph2 225 cup. A guy on meganesport's own car that he smashed.

Got most of the bits I wanted with it, loom and ecu, some coolant and boost pipes and both manifolds. Even got all the history from the donor car

Obviously I'll give it a decent check over and do the usual cam belt change, new plugs, coils and arp rod bolts. New sump gasket and anything else it needs.
Spec will be fairly simple with standard internals for now, Megane 250 turbo, 630cc injectors, decent cooler and 3" down pipe and exhaust. Should be happy with 300bhp for now.

Put it on the stand already and pulled a few bits off. It's pretty grubby and needs a good clean but I'll sort that.

Would love to have something like this.

I wouldn't have opted for RS3's though, they're not great on a standard car. With 300 bhp and a better selection of rubber, i'd have probably been looking at PS4's or similar.

The rainsports will be perfect for all weather road use mate, will probably have another set of wheels for the odd trackday.

Fair enough, I just don't like them to be honest. Had them in the past and they're perfectly fine in the wet/damp. Just too soft in the dry if you want to push a little, even in XL. I bought a set of alloys recently with them fitted and the car became a little unsettled/unstable whereas before it was planted.

Mostly parts updates and engine stripping this week. My tyres turned up, still need to strip and powdercoat the wheels but tyres are ready to go.

Ordered a load of service parts for the megane engine too.
e40e983d89d291ca1035f6a0e0b908e3.jpg

NGK-R plugs, genuine cambelt kit inc water pump and genuine aux kit. New sump gasket too as I've got ARP con rod bolts to fit.

Picked up an RS250 turbo from @T.Trophy on here cheers Steve.
f7eb9ba88616491d5f34392e63144c50.jpg

Need to have a trip to Renault for some water/oil fittings for the turbo + some studs, nuts and bolts. Need an inlet and exhaust manifold gasket too.

Also picked up a few more bits necessary for the conversion.
6d0d515dfb68aa77514a5534e7d8b3e8.jpg

Forge intercooler, 630cc injectors and fuel rail and some Goodridge brake hoses.

Scorpion 3" decat downpipe is here as well. Still need some heat wrap for it.
2c9297f0eb3bd0d655a6707a0b378673.jpg

Had a change of plan regarding the gearbox too. I've bought an R26 'box now so won't be using the Clio 'box. Picking it up tomorrow. Have ordered a load of bits in preparation. Lightweight single mass flywheel, genuine R26.r clutch kit, new slave cylinder and flywheel bolts. Still need a shifter/cables and a pair of shafts.
Not a lot more parts to collect then I'll actually start work on the car.

Windage tray and oil pump out, rockers and tappets out.
3fdaf1e2e25ad7c27dc52551f93bb307.jpg

Need to give the sump a good clean in and out tomorrow. Already cleaned and degreased the block and it's come up really well without needing to paint it. Got the water pump gasket off easily too as they're not the paper style gasket as on the 1*2's they're a proper metal/rubber gasket. Be nice to start building it back up tomorrow, arp bolts in, sump back on, water pump in etc.

Chucked a few other bits back on, dip stick and water pump outlet pipe. Put the cambelt roller and tensioner and belt on loosely but the timing tools are at the workshop so won't get it timed up until the weekend probably.

No rush as I've only just painted the rocker cover and breather plate tonight anyway.

Waiting on a load parts coming into Renault tomorrow hopefully, brand new R26 driveshafts, some turbo gaskets and fittings. Turbo Stud and nuts etc. My lightweight single mass flywheel is here along with genuine R26.r clutch kit, new csc and flywheel bolts. Waiting on my R26 gear shifter and cables to turn up along with the boost control valve and a few sensors I'm missing. More updates over the weekend hopefully.

I'm about at the point where I need bits off the Clio to progress, engine mount bracket, coils, gearbox bolts etc so need to pull the engine out. Will see how we get on for time this week.

Good progress! I'm breaking my Megane so may have a few bits you might want. The ecu is mapped on a hybrid turbo and 630cc injectors.

If I get a chance this weekend I'm going to start stripping the engine etc out of the 200 as I am really stuck now.

Chucked the loom and coolant pipes on the engine to see what's what. Got the sensors plugged in that I have. Short of a couple still.

Also got the downpipe re-wrapped and bolted on.

Samco inlet turned up so just chucked it on along with the boost control valve and piping. It'll probably need cut shorter once in the car anyway.

Last of all, put the new concentric slave cylinder on the gearbox. Have the quick shift linkage to fit too that I'll sort tomorrow hopefully.

I hate the slave cylinder design i.e. a join in the plastic pipe and no retention of the connection where it passes through the bellhousing.
We had a new one fail at Oulton Park (pishing fluid out of the joint) on the Friday before Saturday race day - It was a busy Friday night at Brosport (thank you Dave Hudson)!
I believe LUK now do one thats a one piece metal pipe with a bellhousing retaing collar (well I'm sure I've seen one)

We had the same thing in one of the race cars but reckoned someone was a bit rough putting it back together after a clutch/gearbox change.

Use lockwire to hold the heat wrap in place - it's cheap and once you've got a reel of it you'll find a million uses for it

Been busy today and have to work in the morning but hopefully will have some time to pull the front end off the Clio tomorrow and get it ready to pull the ending out.

I was waiting for someone to notice! Thought I had some stainless ones at work but I've had the stores upside down and can't find any! Trying to avoid buying some as they're a rip off!

Will normal metal cable ties you do up with the guns not work? If you have a gun I have loads I can send you a pack if you want..
