Clio bonnet - up and down movement when closed - normal?

  M2 Comp
Hi all,

My Trophy has been off the road for a while and I've had the bumper off during this time. I've just refitted it and noticed the bonnet can be pushed down a bit when closed, rather than being fixed in one position. I hope this makes sense but if not I can put a video up. Is this normal or is there a problem somewhere?

Thanks

Tom

Thanks all for your help. I didn't think it was right but thought I'd check here before taking anything apart. I wonder if the catch has seized with it having stood for a while...

Didn't these have a recall for dodgy bonnet catches and Renault were repairing em free if charge?

Just a thought

Well I managed to borrow a spare catch off a friend, but it's still the same unfortunately. Really strange.

I tried adjusting the bonnet via the plastic adjusters on each side of the slam panel, which has made a slight improvement, but I think this is really just masking the issue.

Anybody have any other ideas?

Check with your local Renault stealer, to see if it has been in for the bonnet catch recall. If it hasn't, you should get a free check/greasing, or new catch if it is really bad.

Without looking can you ajust the spring on these some cars have a screw un the middle to tighten the spring.

Ive ad a bonnet come up on a clio its not fun.

Does it pop up from the leaver in the footwell?

Mine did this. I took the catch apart, gave it a clean / grease, once back together it was fine.

Hi all, sorry for the late response, I haven't had chance to get out in the garage until today and try out some of your suggestions (which are all greatly appreciated).

I've spent some time removing the slam panel and both catches to clean/grease them up and refit. Everything is working as you would expect, i.e. it releases on the lever fine, and I have made sure the catches are well lubricated.

I still have some movement but it has been greatly improved. However, I am still concerned that there is some movement and I'm not sure what's normal anymore!

I tried to capture it on the video, to be honest it looks like the bonnet hardly moves in the video, but hopefully it gives you some idea. I really can't see what it could be now as from what I can see everything is working as it should.

Just noticed today my bonnet catch isn't solid and can move down more when I press it with my hand. Latch on bonnet is brand new genuine and the one on the slam panel is all lubed up and works perfectly.

Any ideas? I have zero problems lifting the bonnet.
