So for those who know me, I have been banging on about how great my little GT86 is since I bought it back in September 2015. So why then have I I just traded it in for this? (Apologies for shitty iPhone pics)

Well, there are about 414 good reasons laying under that bulge in the bonnet. But to put it bluntly, I've changed jobs this year and I'm lucky enough to be earning enough to justify something a bit sillier. I also bought that comedy Volvo TDI as my daily, so fuel economy and such things are no longer a consideration. The Mrs and I arent quite ready to buy a house right now, and most of the stuff on the market is garbage anyway. So what you're looking at here is probably the fastest house deposit you've ever seen.

So the car itself is a 2007 car in "Melbourne Red Metallic". It has the options of 19" wheels, "Pro" Navigation, Heated seats, High Beam assist, PDC and a few other nice little bits like the carbon splitter things on the front. It's done 53,000 miles and is genuinely in better condition than my Toyota was at 25k. The previous owner has clearly cherished it, even doing little jobs like retrimming the steering wheel. It was also at a Main Dealer, so I get a years warranty which is nice.

How does it drive? Well compared to the GT86, like a f**king rocket ship. The engine is incredible, I finally get what people were talking about with these things. And the noise, my god. It's obviously had the rear silencer "Mod" done as its bloody loud, but quiet enough inside the cabin as to not give me ear ache. I'll just apologise to the neighbours in advance before I start appearing as a menace on the local residents facebook page.

Plans for it? Well me and the Mrs are going to Lake Como for a week in August. Can't wait to drive it there via the Nurburgring, its home at Munich and a few other choice stops! I see myself keeping it for a year or so before I either sell it for a house, or just try and buy a house and run this and work out how to avoid debt collectors.

In before "Lives at home wanker" comments. But so far, so pleasing. Trip down to Bournemouth next weekend to stretch its legs and then I'll decide whether to make changes. I will take some proper pictures soon, but I'm a very busy boy!

Wait you live at home and bought an M3? Fair enough dude and I bet you see how mental you sounded talking about a GT86 being a weekend car now :D

M3 is a great all rounder, obviously going to cost you more than a Volvo diesel to use as a daily, but at least you have the option of using the throttle to get it sideways.

Phat bar steward - once I've got a house in a nicer area with more space I hope to make a daft decision myself! V8 makes sense

Yes, I am that stupid. The Volvo is doing the weekly slog to Milton Keynes, although I may take the M3 to work every now and then!

And TBF this is more usable as a daily than the GT86 was haha

Na sod it, Park it on the road and get CCTV.

Thanks all for the kind words!

I wouldnt sleep! I've got a drive and its a quiet cul de sac but I'd want a garage and a display stand for something like this ha

I feel guilty about this. We have a drive but sometimes it has to sit on the road, we now have a camera out the front which I may have bought solely for this car.... Luckily its not a daily as such so that may save it a bit!

There are worse things you could have put the money on tbh. M3 won't lose much money so it's a nice way to enjoy the cash while it's there (assuming you didn't finance based on your mortgage comments)

My brothers done very similar using one of these to store a house deposit. I love them

Love the red as well, there can't be many around in that colour. What I am not envious of is your fuel bill for a European trip in it, that is going to hurt!

I would love a good in one of these. Love the colour and a proper box to go with. Do they feel brutal in the higher rev range?

Yeah but I wont forget the trip in a hurry! haha, it will be painful though.

It just keeps going and going, a proper screamer. Down low it sounds like a classic V8 with that mid range howl, up top its just VTEC x2.

I love the mechanics/reasoning behind getting this.

A friend of mine recently took me out in one, albeit it had something done to the exhaust - one very addictive sound track.
Oh and like you say, the revs to speed combo is ridiculous.

Enjoy, top work.

Nice looking BM, not sure on the splitters. You need to modify the exhaust.

I'd recommend actuators on that mileage. Huge upgrade from the GT86 on every level.

Much better decision than that GT86 abortion of a car. Good job Legohead.

I'd still have the GT86 tomorrow if I couldn't afford to run this. One of the best cars if the last 10 years, and I'm sure it'll be a future classic. But yes, there's just something about a 4.0 V8 that CANNOT be ignored.

Many thanks! Yes, the noise is glorious. I was smiling ear to ear nailing it out of the BMW Dealer yesterday morning. Apparently a few guys came out the door to listen to it leave haha.

Exhaust has already been done by the previous owner! I'm not 100% on the splitters either, but they were a dealer fit option and I'm a stippler for originality these days. That, and BMW just replaced one before sale as the other one was cracked.

Thanks for the tip! I'm hoping BMW Warranty will cover me on anything scary, but any preventative maintenance along the way will be good. I'll look through the wedge of receipts when I can to see what exactly has been done.

Lovely car and way better than that GT thing you should never have bought.
Enjoy it, it looks great.

If they're the same as the E90 ones (they look like they are the same design) then they won't come off without needing a new bumper lol. They come with this black adhesive that once set is like rock! (At least that's how it was back in 08/09)

Keep them, they look cool!

Dude I did exactly the same thing with an E46 M3 7 years ago while I was saving for some bricks!

You won't lose much money on that, I'm totally jealous. But I own property, so do one mummys boy! Haha.

I can't help but look at E92 Ms myself, but the cost of ownership puts me off a little; the BMW warranty is well over £100PM on top of the £500 tax bracket, the consumables aren't cheap, all makes a very expensive car to sit on the drive.

Saying that, my old E46 I didn't bother with a warranty & had zero issues, only expense was tyres, and the shire fun I had wearing every last mm of tread out of the old ones in an old industial estate made it absolutely worth it!

Lovely purchase. Colour is so nice, and it's the correct gearbox.

Would look 100% nicer on some Competition wheels IMO. you could be this guy.

Looks amazing, but agree with the above. Looks ace on those competition wheels.

Well its certainly more fun than a savings account.
My sentiments exactly!!!
Looks like a great purchase, i do miss the engine/noise of my old one to be fair 😌
Just for reference, & im not sure what the lying t0sspot dealer told you, but the "Pro" Navigation, rear PDC & tri-colour steering wheel are all standard on the M3  The 19's, high beam assist & heated seats are options.

BMW nav is quite good tbh. Has decent routing and having the lane and junction mapper is decent, just a shame you have to pay for the maps (mine cost £80 for 2 years of updates)

As per instagram, lovely thing Jason. The colour makes the car as the E92 imo can be a tad bland and samey in the whites and silverstones out there. My Brother in laws looks indentical with the splitter and spec but he has bradford wheels, looking to order comp ones on the michelins soon then it will look immense!

Very jealous! Looks awesome. Correct colour and gearbox. Personally prefer the standard 18" wheels on these, but it's spot on otherwise.
Bet the step up in mid-range torque is laughable! The GT's I've driven felt really flat.
