Clio 200 Advan AD08R Review.

Having heard great things about these Jesus tyres from Mk2 Clio folk, and since I have plans for some track/Ring time this year, I thought I'd give these a shot. I'd previously ran Conti 5s and Pilot 3s and had even ordered a set of Pilot Super Sports, but wanted to try something a little more aggressive.

Now that my commute is less than two miles each way, longevity isn't an issue as the car is mostly used for fun nowadays.

First impressions were that they're... lively in the wet, and I was actually a bit let down. After a few more miles and time for the tyres to bed in on dry roads, I'm a huge fan. The main difference for me is the sidewall strength; you literally get zero rollover on the road, it doesn't go anywhere. The obvious downside is that they're noticeably harder riding around town, but I've recently replaced both springs and dampers, so this is helping.

Dry grip is mental for what I'd call a middle ground tyre, ie not a full track day tyre like the R888R. The only downside I've found is pushing hard in the wet, which I'm guessing is because of the huge tread blocks on the shoulders not being up to temp with the wet conditions, but for standing water/general wet weather driving, they're surprisingly decent.

In summary, if you can live with the (very) hard ride, and the fairly lively (three quarters oppo on most roundabouts) wet weather performance, then they're a really solid choice. I paid just under £115 each, fitted, so they're affordable in the bigger 17" Mk3 sizing, too.

Wait for the weather to warm up a bit and they'll be even better.

They're not too bad on track in the wet either.

Got to love the tread pattern and the shape of them looks so aggressive and purposeful.

Like I mentioned the other day, in the dry you can really lean on them on the limit, even understeer is very controllable on the ragged edge. I noticed turn in was noticeably improved because of the sidewalls too.

I don't worry about wet performance really, I personally never push in the wet. But I have used them in the pissing rain on track at Oulton and they seemed decent enough, never threw me anything unexpected. There certainly wouldn't be any dangerous surprises for normal road driving in my experience of dailying them on my 1.2.

Good review that! Was that in 215/45 fitment btw, or 225?

Thanks mate. I'll do an update of them once I've been on track in May.
I only wrote one as I could find loads of Mk2 feedback but nothing from Mk3 owners with them.
They're 215 section on mine. I thought about 225s but they're already close to the inner arches because of the chunky sidewalls!
I didn't want to have clearance issues when pushing hard.

Ah right ok. Good to know they're 215's. I'm wanting Michelin pilot cup 2's for mine, but interested to hear your thoughts on these. Similar price to the cup 2's.

I was VERY tempted by the Cup 2s, but they have a more shallow tread depth than the Advan.
I loved how aggressive the Advans looked too. 😂
I know some people run 225s on the Racer wheels, being half an inch wider, but not on the standard Speedlines, I don't think.

i had these on my xjr running about 450bhp end they are a bloody good road tyre. as long as you take it a bit easy when it's 'cold' for the first few miles you'll be fine.

they do work well on the 2/3 clio's and the meg.

Interesting read though, I need to replace mine soon and can't decide between these and PS4's, which I was swaying towards as it's unlikely to get on more than one or two trackdays a year

I was VERY tempted by the Cup 2s, but they have a more shallow tread depth than the Advan.
I loved how aggressive the Advans looked too. 😂
I know some people run 225s on the Racer wheels, being half an inch wider, but not on the standard Speedlines, I don't think.

That's mad! And they're 215/45/17? I run 225s on the 7.5j speedlines and I don't think they look as chunky as those ad08s!

PS4. Every time.

I ran AD08Rs and when cold they're not grippy, when wet they're not grippy (quite a few times I've been glad I've still got Pilot Super Sports on the back otherwise I'd be in a 4 wheel aquaplane) and they're noisy buggers too. If you're going to be doing a lot of track work I'd definitely go for the AD08R as once they're warmed up they're a great tyre in the dry, but always buy tyres based on the situation you will drive the car most in.

I'd agree with that. They're not really a daily road tyre. They'll do the job but they'll never be as good a road tyre as a PS4.
Luckily for me, that's not an issue. My commute is a mile (I should really walk) and the car's only really used for fun.

Yeah, for your case they're fine :)

For what it's worth I got a screw through one of my ADs within a week of buying them. Just had it plugged.

Mine could've been plugged but I was on the motorway when it happened, didn't realise until 10 miles later. by that time the sidewalls were toast.

My car is only for fun and I won't drive it if it's wet but I will if it's a cold but sunny day.

If i do take it out on a cold day then I'm fully aware that it is so drive to the conditions.

Really can't make my mind up between the PS4's and the Yokohama AD08R?

Imo the ado8's are good, very, but need heat in them. But with the warm (ish) weather coming up I can imagine they will be great.

Would I buy them again? Yeah if I was doing a trackday etc. My next tyres will probably be ps3's or similar.

I've had them for 3 years now and driven in every weather imaginable and they've been fine.

I ran AD08s on my Clio 200 over a snowy winter and on a very wet Llandow...and since mid summer last year I've had AD08Rs on my ST.

Wet conditions they're incredible...water displacement is way more than you'd expect and while they have little grip once you're through it, it is enough to make progress should you wish.

Dry...75% of a full on track tyre in my opinion.

Oddly I completely disagree about the sidewalls and ride. Having done over 50k miles in my ST on standard RE050 Bridgestones, I drove away having had the AD08Rs fitted and thought..."OK then, these have none of the usual chopiness or jiggly ride".

To this day I still think they're as comfortable a road tyre as the OEM RE050s were!

The sidewalls aren't as stiff as people think, you can't run them under 30psi hot on track like you can with R888's otherwise they'll start leaning too much on the sidewall.

I run about 33psi hot on track.

Good to know, Mark. Previously I've only really used Contis, which are a full-on road tyre. So to me, the sidewalls seem hugely stiff but that's probably down to the Contis being soft, rather than the Advans being really hard.

Mega tyres, I ran the older AD08 at Spa in torrential rain and the grip was unbelievable once you got a bit of heat in them, standing water isn't so much of an issue when they still have plenty tread depth left.

Stuck some R compound ones on Megane before we went to the Ring done 25 low 8 laps and they were brilliant as a drive there, lap and drive home tyre. Think I got around 6k out that set inc the trip. Very predictable and don't just let go like some tyres can do on the limit. Don't have the outright grip like a proper R tyre has so I stick to DZ03s for proper track work but as a daily tyre they are pretty good, even in out Scottish weather. I havnt even bothered putting my winters on this year, granted its been fairly mild. Helps that you can get them cheap, I've just paid 220 for a pair of 255/35/18s and 235/40/18s are only 200.

Looking forward to seeing how the 255s are next week, I'm expecting a bit more aquaplaning but that's to be expected.

I'd probably run PS4s if it was pure road use though as they offer almost similar levels of grip. If you can accept the slight compromise the Yokos have then you won't go wrong, be sensible in the wet and they are fine.


Your Clio must be pretty loose on the rear Christopher, I really struggle to unstick the Megane on roundabouts, even on a stiff AST setup

Haha, I'd of bought several sets if they could be had that cheap, still cheap though.


Especially when compared to Cup 2s which were my other choice, there's no way the Cups are twice as good to justify the cost

Great info mate.

I think it's a combination of them being brand new and mine has very little weight in the back!

Mine is stripped out as well haha, they are a bit slippy when new to be fair though, once scrubbed up and a heat cycle in them they are great though

Here's how wet the wet day I had at Llandow on the AD08s was...proper torrential rain...and apart from being a little greedy on the throttle when ploughing through a standing water lake they dispersed the water well enough all day long!

I don't drive my car much so the Ado8r's are probably a waste. But in the mood and warm, they are ace.
