Exhaust and cat time

I am thinking of replacing the cat and exhaust system on my Clio 182 because:
- it's the original exhaust system which is very rusty
- exhaust rattles like mad which is annoying
- the emissions light keeps on coming on
- the pulled a low figure on the rolling road recently maybe due to a knackered cat
- I want something shinny, new and sounds good

I am currently leaning towards the Ktr Centerline exhaust system (sports with centre silencer) and sports cat.

I don't want a decat pipe due to the hassle at MOT time. I use the car for track days at Thruxton which is only 90 db which is the reason why I need a centre silencer and fairly modest db reading.

Any better options? Anyone got this system?

Thanks

I think the PMS exhaust might be a bit loud unfortunately. Anyone got one? what's your db reading at track days?

maybe due to a knackered cat
Worth unbolting and holding it up to the light a blockage will be shown as a dark patch.
The aftermarket cats are not as good a quality as the original Renault.
The only way they bloc is from over fuelling/misfire or burning lots of oil.

It totally depends on what system you have, I have just fitted a PMS system to mine it has the standard cat with the bigger end piece for the CAT and it has the centre silencer too. Very quiet, only a little bit louder than standard. I do alot of miles a day in my car so it had to be quiet and no boomy etc. Highly recommend.

To conclude my original post I 'finally' decided on the PMS racing exhaust system including a sports cat. Not the cheapest but as others have mentioned a well engineered system.

Ordered it today, looking forward to getting it fitted!!

Yer as @bloke said you will like it, take it you got the one without the centre silencer? Make sure you get a sound vid up.

I ordered the sports cat so it will pass the MOT and should be quieter then a decat. Does it not come with a silencer?

Hopefully it will not be too loud. I didn't think there was an option.

Due to be delivered early next week!

Looks good

Cat makes alot of difference noise wise, 172 or 182, always a noticeable difference so a sports cat is a good choice for a road car, it also saves you being 'that guy with the loud car'.

Just read you have to pass 90db on track days, wow thats low! My 2.25" system with a cat is louder than that 96db iirc :/ It makes 103db with a de-cat.

Taking advantage of the @Speedy300 thread, I also want to buy an exhaust for my clio 172, I've been between the ktec and PMS, the problem is that I do not know how much noise they make without central silencer, that they would recommend me

90 db is only if I attend Thruxton track days, most track days I attend are 98 db. My old exhaust was 90 db and I would say they similar in noise levels but the PMS sounds epic!

Without the silencer the PMS would be loud, I think @Fletcher has a 172 decat version, he might be able to assist you.

The cat does not interest me because in my country we do not have controls for the emissions as in his country, but I had the doubt if the noise of the exhaust without central muffler is very strong

If they have videos with one with central muffler and one with central muffler that they can share please

ktec is awful single box, you'll hate your car and never want to drive about 40mph!!!

Agreed, PMS have the best exhaust system in the market, sounds baller and the fact that it replaces the rear factory exhaust mounts makes it a winner, will always line up strait!

What do you think of the Exhaust Manifold PMS, is it worth installing it with the original engine?

From the videos IV seen with the pure Motorsports exhaust for me it sounded tame and not very rally or burbly
The scorpion 192 the same
IV a custom powerflow and it sounds very flat and plain
I don't know what's the best sounding exhaust for the 182
Do piper or Remus make 182 systems?

They do sound good but I've been struggling with the mani to cat gasket leaking so I've not got the 'full' sound as yet.

It is pretty loud though, I've just fitted a decat as well which will be taking off because it's a bit too loud for me now.

Think I've only ever seen or heard of a handful of people with them fitted.
