Are the first like ten knocking about? Single figure ones will command a premium at a guess?

Lad on here has number 8 I think

#004 is Harry 'Evo' Metcalfe's.

Not sure the early ones will command a premium - the first 5/6/8 were press cars so will have seen their fair share of different drivers all doing 0-60mph tests and caning them pretty hard, but to be fair they love it so no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

#182 and #500 get my vote for being most desirable, aside from #001 of course.

My understanding was the first 6 were press cars.

A previous owner of my car #008 tried to attach a premium because it was the 2nd private sale.

#167 here. I went to see #172 (I think) when I was looking but it was a s**t one

If it was a decent special edition I could understand it, but some dampers, some seats and a spoiler onto a cup and you're done.

Not quite. Thousands of 182s and only ever 500 UK Trophies.

I once had a 911 3.2 Carrera Club Sport. Car 52 of 53 ever made. They go for circa £150k and up now. Even though regular 3.2 Carrera's have gone up in value the last few years they will never be Club Sport money.

My 182 has satnav, 1 of 52 in BG. Can I sell it for £20k?

Whilst I know what you mean, there's just not the brand heritage. Old porsches will always be cool, and then the special ones command a premium.

I think the trophy is a great car, but so are the rest of the Renault sport range..

  cup 182
It's all supply and demand
Renault sport and hot Vauxhall's never seem to hold value
Where as any ford with an rs badge does
Personally i think a 172 cup will be more desirable than a trophy one day
But apart from having recaro seats and suspension and 500 units in red they just look like any other 182 imop nothing to make you feel you own something special or valuable

Can we all just stop talking about Trophy's please! [emoji24]

All I have left is my OMP steering wheel, which is now fitted in the Impreza (felt like the right thing to do)

I also still have the #083 plaque as a little memory...

Flipping bonkers. Utterly bonkers.

This, the Trophy seems to be the car everyone wants to be worth a s**t-load of money, but for no substantial reason to back it's price up.

Does it have fine motorsport pedigree?? No
Did it bring about a revolution in car design? No
Was it significantly faster than it's fellow cars? No

Are people holding onto other Trophy models with similar fervour?

To be fair I did alright after the write off.

Insurance with an agreed value (not 16k unfortunately) and then selling on all the mods certainly helped!

Splitting a Trophy in spares for one that is not even considered for repair would fetch a decent return. How much did the insurers knock off for retaining the salvage?

Category B write off... 😞

£7000 agreed value

Less my £250 excess, and they wanted £500 so I could retain the Trophy.

So £6250 via a cheque and easily well over 4k in mods/parts so that £500 was well spent!

When did you get that agreed value? I've just renewed and got 5.5k agreed

My 2p's worth
With maintaining a Cliosport being very expensive compared to its value
£650 for cambelt compared to say £3000 value of a half decent 182 ( not exact but bear with me).
Less and less will be maintained properly.
So low miles cars with full and proper history will be hard to find.
When you couple that with a special edition model that is even more expensive to maintain properly with the suspension at £1000 every 3 or 4 years plus the normal costs the trophy will go up in value quicker than the others again for properly maintained ones.

Plus you will have car collectors then taking an interest as it's just numbers for them. These are people who will take a punt on a 100k Porsche or Ferrari hoping to get back 20k plus then initial £100k over a 3 year investment and pay no capital gains tax on it :)

A 15-20k hot hatch that is getting very good press to them will seem like a bargain. Plus it's the cheapest "modern classic" hot hatch.

I'm happy to be paying SJM to get my cambelt done and spend that little bit extra on getting the right parts and tyres knowing that it's not on a car that's losing money.

But on the flip side I have had some clown shoe telling me that it's worth £1400 as that what it caps at ,when bored the other day and looking at a car somewhere so there are extremes on both sides.

Again my 2p's worth but I do deal with people with car collections quite a lot and a few have asked what I drive and a few years ago nobody had a clue what a trophy was but now know what the are "like the one harry has"

At 15-20k?? It's probably one of the more expensive, it's Clio V6 money.

If people are willing to spend that kinda money on an average limited run car thats their business, but if they think there's any money to be made they're off their f**king head.

The cost of the cambelt is an iirelevant point to valuing any car regardless whether its done properly or by whom.

Its like basing a cars value on the branding of the tyres - every car has them, whether they're Wanli or whether they're Pirelli, the worth of them does not dictate market value.

Exactly. It only effects how easy it will be to sell

But the fact that it has been serviced correctly through its life does and that's my point.

People will not get it done when needed as the cars value decreases, why would you do it on a high miles 172 worth £1000 now? It's nearly the value of the car.

"Cam belt done in 2007 by a specialist"

Unless the belts, tyres, suspension blah blah has been done and covered little to no mileage / completed less than a month ago then it's dead money for re-sale really.

  Disco 5 ,Monaro VXR
I'm not saying who has done it that makes a difference. It's the fact that it's been done that does

Or are people saying that a car without the proper history is worth the same as one with every service done on time with the cambelts done.

A car will command stronger money for it.

Not ridiculous money for it.

Those two things are one persons sanity apart.

People do trust me. I see it everyday. Granted it's on cars worth 70k plus.

I will be able to sell a Range Rover for a lot more for one with full LR or known specialist history and the right tyres etc, than one serviced by Halfords and with Tesco dichfinders on.

My original point was the people who are paying silly money for trophies will pay silly money for cars which have all the boxes ticked i.e. full dealer history or known specialist history, in the trophy's case the dampers refurbished by the right people and in good condition and the cambelts done when needed in its history.

I've genuinely had to change tyres on cars because people have put the wrong compound Perelli p zeros on as Porsche, Ferrari and Lambos have slightly different ones. The extended dealer warranties won't pay out if you fit the wrong ones and something happens to the diff etc.

It's like a different world these people operate in who have the money.

And a £15-£20k Trophy is like you or I sticking a £5 on the lottery

I don't think people are grasping the concept of car collectors. I'm in complete agreement with @Brooky182

A person who collects cars properly, will only add a car to their collection if it's identical to when it left the factory. That's the whole point of an appreciating collection.

They will pay £2/3/4/5k more for a car with OE spec tyres and correctly serviced. Even if the parts only cost £1000 to replace.

They are collecting cars, not restoring them.

Some of the people we get in work would not even entertain a car on the non factory spec tyres let alone one that has missed a service or has a non original spec.

We are not dealing with the average car buyer, we are dealing with collectors. The two are worlds apart.
And those collectors are the ones that will pay whatever it takes to get a certain car in their garage.

I agree with this. So if you've got a trophy, do the next service yourself. Let's keep these great cars on the road and not locked away in collections.

Supply and demand are key! supply being how many are left and demand as in who would pay over the odds to buy that particular car because they want it that much
Owners actually determine the value
For example i loved escort cosworths growing up always wanted one for the looks, performance wise there nothing special nowadays yet because there so desirable to ford enthusiasts owners all over value them massively to make money because there's demand for them, IV seen them advertised at nearly 50k not worth that in a million years imop, most probably won't sell at that price, but the owners are now collector's rather than enthusiasts as there looking for future investment, these cars are stored away and not driven, only way we can up the demand or value of the Renault sport clios is don't sell them under a particular price, it's just the demand isn't there for Renault sports and that's why values are on the floor
Well what i think anyway

  Clio 172 Cup
I work at a place that does work on historics, and the money involved in keeping things original is absolutely eye watering. People have been known to have entire casting patterns made up to make one part for one car, just to make it absolutely indeterminable from factory.
Trophies will always be worth a lot as they are seen as the ultimate car from what was seen as the golden age of hot hatches, where they had large power outputs thanks to modern injection and engine management technology, but were properly lightweight because they didn't have such stringent safety regulations, and drove in a raw, addictive manner. Nearly every review of the trophy is swimming in praise, and they do look pretty good in my opinion.
Personally I think the 172 Cup is the car to go for, as with a set of coilovers and some seats it is a superior car to the trophy. That said, a modified car will never be collectable, and there are thousands of Cups left. I think a large part of the Trophies appeal is also that little plaque saying xxx/500. Limited editions are often seen by people as investments even if they actually don't represent a sound investment (no significant motorsport success ect as mentioned before). As soon as people start to look at a car as an investment, the price will creep up and up.
Just my opinion!
