Great car and great video mark. I'd be chuffed to bits like you if I bought a new Rs, they look epic.

Hope it serves you well mate

It does move with it on but not much...a second gear exit from a tight roundabout does need a dab of oppo and it all feels very controllable...but I don't know if that's my mega skillz or the car doing it all for me
It's the car 😂

On a serious note though. It is exceptionally good at flattery.

Just look at the bloody state of it! Have you never been on the Internet? According to t'web, all brand new cars should be subjected to 5 days cleaning and coating before seeing daylight. I'm sorry Mark, but a 172 cup will be worth more than your rs in 5 years now. [emoji38] [emoji38] [emoji38]

I'm 1,100 miles in now and it's still not been touched. I almost broke out the pressure washer earlier this evening but though "f**k it" and went for a blast across the Downs instead LOL

Glad you're enjoying it Mark! I'll come along to the next SRR for a gander if you're heading down.

Sounds great does that. I'am happy it's being used as intended, and not being wrapped in cotton wool 'cause it's got an RS badge attached. Looking forward to more, i know MPG is not important, but what are you averaging ?

Looks great Mark! Really curious as to how it compares to the 290 real world! There's the obvious FWD/AWD differences, but I mean in terms of living with the thing! Will be following

I can get early to mid thirties if I put my mind to it...I've managed it for one trip to work so far and then my inner child took over again...which then gives me 25 to 26 mpg. I'm happy with that.

It's been used domestically all day today...and the only slight issue was that the two plastic crates I take crass cuttings to the tip in only just fitted...I almost had to take the shelf out. Other than the boot compromise, and the fact that I keep getting asked to take it out of sport suspension mode when it's already in the softest setting, it's just a Ford Focus.

Just out of interest do you fill up with a particular brand of fuel or just go for the higher octane (98-99Ron)

Sounds well on the launch control vid

i don't know how to subscribe to a thread but if I did know how I would subscribe to this one.

Just some constructive criticism.
1) In the 1st video I would have liked you to sit in the drivers seat and pretend to drive, gear changes the lot Brrrrrr brrrrmm eeeerrrrrr brrrrrrrrmm.

2) That collection video is near on awesome. That grin reminds me of xmas circa 1989 when I got the Manta Force Red Viper spaceship. Couldn't wipe it off for a week.

EDIT: 3) Forgot to add geeky as hell.

Brutal! I loved launch control in my old 6 MPS, do these come with flat foot shifting Mark?

In a Ford RS engineering team technical talk that a load of RSOC members went to they said that launch control should be sidestep the clutch and flat for the first shift. I wanted to try it out, but I've never done it before and it just feels wrong! I'm paranoid I'll time it wrong and use 350 lbft to create some gear crumble. I do want to give it a go though.

The brochure says 'Launch Control' optimises the AWD system for the launch and also lifts the torque limit. No one, as far as I know, has ever tested how much the car normally limits boost by in the first two gears or by how much it's lifted when launched versus full boost in third.

From what they said I think launch control will cancel all torque limiting until the flat foot at launch is lifted from the throttle, so to really get the full torque launch control benefit in second gear you have to flat shift or else torque limits are restored before you've got the clutch back up.

I intend to datalog and find out for sure

1,400 miles now, two weeks of daily use, after my initial 4 day 1,000 mile marathon...thoughts?

I can see why people tune them. Doesn't feel especially fast in a straight line, its immense torque is so progressive in the way it rapidly builds that there's no hint of drama at all.

Around turns though, oh yes.

Understeer. We've all felt it. That sense of the front wheels scrubbing just very very slightly beyond their perfect slip angle?

That's what this car feels like but from the rear, every single time you get on the power around a corner. It's not oversteer in the sense of having to adjust your steering, well, not unless you want it to be which it does very easily even in the all systems engaged 'Normal' mode...but it feels like it's just always scrubbing, just slightly. Oversped rear wheels at play? That does equate to what I'm feeling.

Giving it a bootful out of second gear roundabouts is way beyond hilarious. When it starts to go, you're all ready for it, because it's been going just slightly all the way around the turn already.

MPG is bad. The fuel light coming on at 1/3 of a tank is comical.

1 warranty issue already. Nothing major, lug bent on interior trim piece so it doesn't fit perfectly. Been to the dealership today to sort. they were bang on as usual. Saw @Jeff simply 's actual abandoned car there...

Yeah, power delivery does make a big difference. That said, mine has lag and still has a slightly better book time than these.

Get it mapped!

Recommendation from ford for best launch is drop the clutch (when I did it I depressed the clutch with my toes then moved my foot down and let the clutch pedal spring back) and flat shift into 2nd. When testing the original setup, they apparently did 30 launches in a row with no adverse issues with the car.

So what are you getting mpg wise and how many miles to a tank? 1,200 miles I would guess is 4 trips to the watering hole? I thought the same on the fuel light when it first came on. I was thinking "but I've got so much left", well you don't!

That's what I was on about earlier in the thread. You can't beat a bit of old school turbo lag to add some excitement.

I'll happily take some dynamic excitement when driving around corners over a laggy power delivery. It's certainly not lacking in a straight line unless you're comparing tenths vs an RS3/Golf R/A45.

Including the initial fill up I've put £362.68 into it so far :fearscream:

The fact that it's cheaper to insure than our C-Max makes up for that though.

Is it much quicker than the st in a straight line?

Without a doubt it is...it just doesn't feel any quicker.
