ESP and (probably) Serv Light

Got my ESP light on constantly from when I start the car. My Serv light doesn't work, it doesn't light up when I turn the ignition on so I'm assuming it doesn't, but if it did I'm guessing it would be on now along with the ESP light because they're a common combo.

Searched on here and checked the usual things for this, brake switch and brake fluid level. Both haven't solved it. Driven it around for 10/15 minutes or so and it's still there, tried turning the car off and back on again after this and it hasn't gone away.

Any ideas?

depends what reader it is. i've got clip but am sure you'll find someone closer though.

probably not a ring, if it's a ring the light should clear until you drive it.

am away sunday-thursday.

Ahh right. I've had an ABS sensor go on my old car with similar symptoms.

You around tomorrow at all? Going to Liverpool so I could nip across the water quickly if you were. No worries if not, think I know another guy who had it at one point so I'll see if he still does.

So no ABS, stop or Handbrake light? If not doubt it would be a abs fault, I'm guessing steering angle sensor. Pull the steering wheel off and see what position its in and re-centre if need be.

You've probably disturbed it at Oulton last week. Mines always on and off, and I've got no service light like you.

Ahh right. Might have a look at that then. The steering wheel has never been straight but I've put it down to tracking in the past so maybe it could be the angle sensor?

On this, it went away the other night, came back for a little bit, then it's gone away and hasn't come back since lol. So it's off for now, just have to see if it comes back on again before I investigate further.

Swap reservoir caps with another Mk2 owner?
Sometimes it's the simplest things!

Yeah if it comes back I'll give it a go. Got one on the 172 still so could even try that. Did top up the brake fluid when it originally started but we'll see, as you say the cap itself could be knackered.

Yup, they have a level sensor in them. Mine went goofy on the 182 ages ago

I see! I did notice when I took it off that the plug that goes into it was slightly melted where it'd been taken off previously and must have been resting on the exhaust manifold. Can't remember if it was like that before we did the fluid on it, but all the connector pins are in tact so I can't imagine it's that.

Yeah it's the little plug on top like you say. I just ordered a new one from Renault in the end to save buying another duff one.
I think it was around £40.
