Hello, newbie from derbyshire

  Black/gold ff 182
Hello!
Just bought myself a ff black/gold 182 on Monday, it's my first ever Clio and have wanted one for a long time after driving one years ago, I had an s2000 before this which was wrote off as some one crashed into it parked up outside my house! I also have a pulsar gtir!
It was a bargain buy with only a couple of little bits that want doing (track rod ends/ new windscreen etc).
Other than it ticks over at around 600 rpm which I think is a little low it seems a good clean solid car for little money. It has a receipt for a recent cambelt change but no mention of the depsaher pulley or if it was done by a Renault specialist with the correct tools to lock it off etc! It runs sweet as a nut and there's no rattles or odd noises, just the 'lowish' idle.
Any way, I'll be asking a few questions soon and hopefully you lot will be good enough to dish out some good advice!
Ta for now

Must say I had to be calmed down when I came outside and saw the mess! One of if not the best car I've ever owned! Thanks for the offer of help Ben, much appreciated! Where abouts in Derbyshire are you? I'd be more than willing to swap help for a blast in the pulsar, it's 450bhp so doesn't hang about!

Just seen you're in ambergate, I'm in Belper!!
Who do you use for servicing? I'd like to have the dephaser and cam belt done for piece of mind and don't know who to use around here that know these cars

  Nil presently.
Wouldn't happen to be Registration WG04 LTJ would it? I noticed it was up for sale pretty cheaply a few days back on eBay, then swiftly disappeared. It was my old Clio, I'm keen to know how she is :)

This is the car I bought, only paid £650.
It's in near perfect condition with hardly a mark on it,underneath is perfect, interior is immaculate, even the engine bay is extremely clean. 92500 miles.

Wow bargain that! Welcome, as you've already discovered all the help you need is right here. Obviously it helps if you have a tasty car to scare people in too [emoji23]. Pics of the pulsar for those of us who love an old rally slag?

Yes it's certainly a bargain and just booked a trip to the Nurburgring in it for October, all ready been this year in the pulsar.
People seem very helpful/welcoming so far, here's the pulsar

I can imagine. I'm surprised pulsar values haven't started to take off yet. Everything else of the era is bloody expensive now.
Believe me they have started, because of the 25 year rule from America, you can still gets some cheap 'ish' ones but they will be rotten dogs, for a half decent one you'll need 7k plus and a good one 10/12k... and that's if you can find one. Pretty rare cars nowadays

Yeah they always were thin on the ground, finding a UK sunny gtir must be impossible now.
So with that beast at your disposal what made you buy a cheap clio?

There like hens teeth!
I've had 4 205 gtis in the past which I loved, but there fetching too much money now, plus not the comfiest/most reliable. I've always fancied a Clio, something I could do track days in, seats in the back, a boot, cheap, quick and fun, they tick a lot of boxes for me, and after drag racing my mate in his type r a couple times yesterday and beating him both times (to his absolute disgust and my great surprise) it seems to have been a very good decision so far. Still getting used it, but it's putting a big smile on my face, and for such little money I can't complain! It's booked in with Mike at diamond motors soon which everyone on here has advised me to do so he can give it a good look over!

[emoji23] I bet your mate was gutted. So you plan to keep the clio most road spec then? I agree with everything you said, as a cheap fun car there's nothing can beat them.

Gutted is an understatement, I genuinely thought he would walk away with it, but after 3 standing start drags I pulled around 2 car lengths on him each time. He thought he would as well, so very surprised. I don't trust it in the corners though, it feels very 'skittish' at speed and 'wanders' as though there's something worn......
I don't really plan to do much to it tbh, other than if a set of the Turini speed line wheels come along at a good price and lower it slightly I just want to look after it, keep it clean and enjoy it. From my past experience modifying cars brings problems....
