182 Purchase

Slightly off tangent, but am I correct in thinking that there is only Black Gold available for the 182? There is no flat/plain black colour?

It's difficult to see the gold pigments unless in direct sunlight and to the untrained eye appears as plain black anyway.

I have driven one previously, albeit briefly & no, I have not yet been to see one as there aren't any nearby for me to view (the one in Armadale near me sold before I was due to see it).

You'd be welcome to my Black Gold, but what I seem to want for it and what people think it's worth are a little bit apart haha. Good luck with your search, I can imagine it being tricky finding a car up in Scotland.

Are you implying that nobody in Scotland will buy a car that will require any rectification, and that seller`s will not fix any fault`s, as said buyer`s are not prepared to pay a realistic price for the best example`s?

Not at all, I'm implying there are a lot less cars in Scotland in comparison to other parts of the UK haha

Per head or because there are less people in Scotland?
Either way, you get more miles of road per car, as opposed to how many 1000`s of car per mile.

Not per capita, no, simply because there are less people in Scotland than in all of greater London for example- less cars, less cars for sale; however, potentially less buyers too so good cars are more readily available- who knows, its an interesting one. And yes, more miles of road per car which if you have read my 'build' thread you'll see I reference Scotland - particularly the Highlands - as one of my favourite places in the world :)

Hello all,

I just wanted to thank all who contributed to this thread for aiding me in my search, it was very helpful.

Always seems a bit of a shame when these search threads are left unresolved given the help & advice that is offered, so I figured I'd provide a quick update.

In short, I have a 182. It's a FF in silver, good condition, well maintained & low mileage given the year. It's a hoot! A few things to tidy up but nothing of any great concern - can anyone recommend a wheel refurb establishment up my way (Edinburgh)?

Thanks again all.

Theres not many 'mint' 182s for sale at all atm, after a quick glance at pistonheads/auto trader. £2.5-3k might get you a good condition one.

Sorry to hijack... also looking for a 182.

A black one has come up on autotrader, 85k, FSH, 2 previous owners, belts done 16k ago (I’m assuming 2015/16), ‘immaculate’ condition, few tiny marks, £3,250.

Last MOT shows it needs two front tyres and lower arm ball joints.

I’m thinking £2,750?

If you don't try you'll not know. Depends if it's a private seller or not.

Sounds like a nice, subtle, touch in that case, which suits me. Just nailing down colours I'm happy with.
Depending upon the light, it really can shine through. Looks great (imo) from certain angles in the sun - rarely clean though!

I think Black Gold is so much nicer than Pearl Black. It just seems so much deeper, and polishes up so well. It's a b*****d to keep clean though, but they still look good dirty.

IMHO I would look for a car that needs it's belts doing (either knock this off list price, or find a buyer who has already knocked the price down for this reason) and take it to a proper specialist of your own choosing. Belts being done doesn't mean they've been done well, so just be aware of that. Look for a decent specialists receipt, and if needs be give them a call as people invoices for their car might vary to the mechanics.

Just to give you some idea, i picked my car up for £1200 (delivered to my door from Milton keynes). It has a slight scuff on the front bumper, and some denting in the bonnet (the latter is common). The rest of the condition was also great, with uprated dogbone, solid engine/gearbox mounts and factory fit satnav (rare bonus). It did need the belts doing, so i took it to Mick at diamond motors and got it done properly with belts/water pump etc. So a solid 182, with belts done properly for £1800.

I do agree with you, but you have to remember though, we know what we're looking for etc, most of the general public don't have a clue. If you rock up to most & say 'oh the belts are over due that's £500' they say, so ?? and wouldn't knock it off.
