Jimbob's OG Megane 250 Cup

Copied over from the Megane Forum

Had my Megane 250 just over a couple of weeks now and thought it would be time to start a thread for it!

Bought it off a lad on this very forum, travelled all the way down London to get it and drove it back

Previous car was a Clio 182, which I bought completely standard which ended up being heavily modified and turned basically into a road going track spec - Spax Coilovers, PMS Solid Top Mounts and Braces, VibraTechnic Engine Mounts, Black Polybushed, Whiteline Rear ARB, Recaros, AD08R's, Partly stripped, etc. Absolutely loved the car, and it handled amazingly - unfortunately using it as a daily with almost 20,000 miles each year it wasn't really that suitable anymore!

So the plan with the Megane is some slight modifications, but don't take it anywhere near as far as the Clio and keep it as a capable daily!

Anyway onto the car - It's an Oyster Grey 250 Cup, with a wicked factory spec and most optional extras - Recaros, RS Monitor, Bi-Xenons, Climate Control, Keyless, Auto Lights/Wipers, DRL's and no doubt some other stuff I've missed!

It's pretty much standard bar a Panel Filter, Midbox Chop and an all important RS Tuning Map!

Compared to the Clio it's honestly like luxury. Reading reviews people said the Cup Chassis was stiff, but in comparison to my Clio this is like a Rolls Royce I kid you not! I do miss the 'rawness' of the Clio at times, and the Megane does seem a little less connected I guess you could say, but overall I think it could be the perfect compromise of a daily toy for me!
It's scary how quiet and effortless it seems compared to the Clio, don't get me wrong it puts you back in the seat but it's not until you look at the speedo you see how fast your actually going!
After 2 weeks I am missing the Clio, will happily admit that, but I have a feeling with a couple of tweaks and a bit more time with the Megane, it will be the right decision!

Did what I think everyone does as a first job...Remove the Megane badge! Also got my plates on - Went slightly smaller on the front as I ran one on the Clio and just prefer it slightly!

I then spent an evening and the whole next day detailing it, wanted to get on top of it as soon as I got it as it makes it so much easier there after, especially with Winter coming up!

Washed and Dried first, followed by a full Clay to decontaminate the paint work. This left me a nice smooth finish to work on some minor paint corrections with my DA and Menzerna polishes. Finally it was deciding what to protect it with, and after reading various reviews online I went with Carlack 68 NCS and LLS which initial impressions seem very good, added an extra layer of Collinite 476 Wax for a bit more protection and peace of mind, which I can top up as we go over winter.

Paint does have a bit of orange peel, but speaking and looking at other Oyster Greys it seems this is the norm, bit of a shame but I can live with it. I may look into doing some wet sanding to improve it, but for the time being I am happy enough with it.

Some outside shots, unfortunately as it was on the edge of dark it doesn't look that impressive;

And this post takes us up to today...and it's been a good couple of days - I've now got the following ready to fit

So that's a new CGR Decat, new H&R Springs, Airtec Intercooler and some 18's wrapped in Nankang NS2R's

Plan is simple - get them fitted, take it up to Paul to get the map adjusted to suit - enjoy the car!

Still a few more things to do it - Upgrade the speakers and fit an amp, fancy a sun strip, and will look at a couple of other mods no doubt, but once I get these parts fitted I think that will keep me happy for a few months...I hope lol

Tried my 18" Cup wheels tonight but not too sure I like them

Can't decide if its the actual wheel I don't like or the colour...I don't think the massive arch gap helps either lol!

Think it's mainly the wheel style in all honesty, so think I'm going to sell these and keep an eye out for another style wheel

What do people think?

Are the standard wheels 19's? The cup ones look small in comparison. I prefer the standard ones in honesty.

Really like the car, love the colour however I much prefer the original wheels.

Originals are 19" (which in fact are optional extra), the Black ones are 18" (and the standard ones fitted)

I was hoping to change to 18's for the cheaper tyres, and supposedly if you read the numerous reviews online the 18's are much preferred for handling and ride comfort!

Plan was to use the 19's currently on over winter (as the diamond cut is in a poor state) and then get myself some 18's, but think I'm going to look into different options...

Been playing with photoshop and I think once I get my lowering Springs on they look quite a bit better, don't think the arch gap was helping a huge amount:

Thanks all! I've decided the Cup 18's aren't for me, so going to look into alternatives!

It needs lowering by about a foot, then 18's will look fine. Not the OEM ones though, they are mega pony imho.
wheelsnew001_zps7nr8hqnd.jpg

That looks absolutely lovely, shame those OZ's are £1500 lol

Would love to put it on Coilovers, but I'm holding off for now and just going to fit my H&R Springs, apparently it'll drop the cup chassis a further 25mm so that will hopefully be enough if I get some different 18's

Currently thinking of Team Dynamics 1.2's :

I just put a deposit down on one, absolutely pumped to get it hopefully tomorrow or at worst Monday. Px' d my 182 for it, doubt I'll miss the clio had it for years

Car looks lovely, but so did your 182!

As for the wheels the 18's are a better shape but definitely not in black. If they were silver they would look bigger. Ideally you need sliver turini's [emoji106]

I'm pretty much decided, next wheel will be a very dark anthracite, not quite as dark as black!

Leaning towards Team Dynamic 1.2's, but still looking at others - anybody got any suggestions on what could look good?

5x114.3
<£600

More than likely going to run the current 19's over winter, don't fancy new wheels and ruining them with the salt, etc!

The standard 19" wheels that the car came on seem a bit like marmite, but I think they look great and the car in your first photos looks sooo smart. I think it's 100% the right choice to sell on those black 18's, didn't suit it at all but always worth trying these things

Will be very interested to see how this little project progresses, looks a great car and the new mods will be awesome when on

Even though the original 19's look a bit vauxhall VXR they look massively better than those black 18's. I think tbis bodystyle and arch size looks better on a 19

They look good. I wouldn't say they look aggressive as they are quite similar to the previous gen wheels so they sort of look more of an evolution than the mk3's 19's.

They're currently leading as my favourite, but can't help but think at certain angles they just don't look right - possibly too aggressive looking for a relatively curvy car?

What wheels are they? I've been thinking about the options for my Meg. Some of the nicest ones are so expensive, can't justify that. Those look nice though.

Completely forgot that I had a thread on here, most of it's over on the Megane Forum but I'll do a quick and brief update :

Bought and fitted a KTR Induction Kit
Bought and fitted a Forge Recirc Valve
Fitted my H&R Springs
Fitted my Airtec Intercooler
Fitted Black Badges and Exhaust Surround
Bought and Fitted New Spark Plugs
Been Serviced
Bought and Fitted some 18" Speedline Turinis

Still loads planned, but over winter now I'll probably leave it as it is for the time being.
Front tyre is 215/35 instead of 225/40 hence why it doesn't look quite right in the photos.

And now pictures....
