Rob's R26

I assume the window regulators are ok and the swivel hub bearings don't need doing/have been done?

They're pretty common.

Also worth checking the scuttle drains now before they do block up.

Much cheaper to fix the swivels on the 225/230 though. The 197/200/250 have a different design, annoyingly.
Definitely worth checking.

Hate to think if you'd gone from 5th to reverse
I know... [emoji30]
It'll also be why you were having problems with 3rd and 5th because the selector would have been lifted slightly, so it's not going smoothly into gear.
I hope so James! I'll take it for a drive later after I've fitted the Milltek!
First problem fixed, and dead cheap too [emoji1][emoji106] .
Let's hope they're all like that!

Window regulator's seems to behaving themselves at the moment! But I know how fragile they are.

As for the hubs they have been replaced which was a bug selling point for me.

Has it had the grease nipple mod on the hubs? Sounds like a worthwhile thing to do if not.

I've made a fair bit of progress this evening!

Milltek exhaust fitted, which has given the car a much more purposeful sound. It's only cat back for the time being but I'm looking forward to hearing the results of a decat pipe!

Also fitted this evening was a KTR induction kit coupled with their enlarged intake hose. I know the gains realistically are minimal, but it just sounds so bloody good! Completely changing the character of the car.

I have improved my gear selection after fixing the seized gate reverse on the shaft. However I'm still struggling to get the car into third gear when accelerating hard, but at lower speeds etc it's much easier.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I will get some photos up at the weekend hopefully!

Wow . What a car, looks lovely in black. They have so much potential too.

Looks a good'un, really wouldn't think it's done near 100k. Just shows mileage is just a number long as it's been looked after.

I really wouldn't mind a R26, i keep looking at that 19k miler at K-TEC lol.

I did the swivel joint on my 197 ther other week. Was much easier than most make out. Did it in place with small amount of heat and a hammer.

Looks great mate!,i keep looking at these and will prob get one later at some point.Look forward to see what you do to it!.
Cheers bud, I'm really pleased with it! Went out for a good blast yesterday and the Meg didn't disappoint!

I've ordered a new gear actuator, which has been modified for a shorter throw to Improve the gear selection. Although now that I've gotten used to it I haven't had any problems!

Only issue I've got now, is due to a classic case of 'man math' and buying parts like exhausts, and intake kits I haven't got enough to buy some proper track rubber for CSF! [emoji23]

So I'm going to have to make do with the Michelin PS4's that are currently fitted, and see how they fair...

Did the short shift mod on my phase one yesterday.
Makes a hell of difference. The sooner you do it the better.
I appreciate it's way easier on mine and I did it myself but I can't emphasise the difference it makes.

The decat combined with your new induction kit will give it lots of nice noises. Mine crackles, pops and burbles like a good un;-)

That's promising news James! Once received I will try and fit one evening after work this week.

The more I've driven the Meg the exhaust sounds better, and better I put that down to carbon build up within the pipework? All being well I will get a de-cat pipe ordered next month, but I'm not sure whether to tackle the job myself as it looks like an utter pig! I'll have to look around and see if anyone fancies that lovely job! 😂

Oh cool so your bringing it to CSF then,i'll have to come & have a look mate as ive not looked round one properly.

Yeah this will be my third year, and I can't bloody wait! It's always a really good weekend.

Bring a helmet mate, and your'e more than welcome to jump in for a few laps!

The decat was already on mine. It is a pig of job by all accounts because of where it is. Definitely a ramp or pit job, not a driveway on yer back kind of a job.
You won't believe the difference the shift mod makes!!!
I combined mine with a new gear knob as Im not a fan of the RS gear knobs or steering wheels.
The wheel will be replaced soon if I can find the right one at the right price.
I don't do track days because of the costs involved and the time so I like it to be a good place to sit on the commute/ drive.
Next little job is to sort the auto wiper sensor as it annoys me not having intermittent wipers. Hopefully just a new sensor of eBay for a few quid will fix it.

  A special one.
Coming along nicely mate, would love to see how this and mine compare on the road.

How's the LSD in these? Worth it over a standard 225?

Do you mind if I have a sit in it at CSF? Don't even need a ride, I just want to see how the Recaro's sit. Were they standard in the R26's? I've got them in my 182 but not sure whether I'd want them in a Meg as the standard seats look comfy and more supportive.

It's a lot of fun! Much like the quaife I had in my Trophy, but much like the Trophy you really have to drive like an utter loon on the road to notice it.

So I'm keen to see how it feels out on track!

As for the Recaro's they feel great and if I'm honest they're a much better fit in the R26 than they were in the Trophy. Although again the Recaro's weren't all that supportive on track and I ended up replacing them with Corbeau Club Sports.

I'd imagine it will be exactly the same in the R26 at Blyton.

Sounds like a good mod plan is in action! I've not been in a Meg for nearly 10 years but I can remember the fun I had on Silverstone GP circuit in my old F1. You'll enjoy csf again, that I'm sure of!

Cheers mate, It's getting there!

I've heard good things, and really am looking forward to getting out on track! As for the mods it's great to start a new project again, there's so much I want to do!

Where is a good place to get a new gear knob for the R26 do you know?

Do you mean aftermarket or new Renault one. If it's aftermarket then there isn't a huge choice. I opted for a Richbrook top gear multi fit one, £30 from halfrauds in silver or in black online. Comes with different tops you just interchange.
If it's an oe renault one then you can have my old one for a few quid. It's got orange graphics on it as mines an inferno colour.

I can grab some pics of them in a bit if you want?

Cheers james

Oh what fun I've had this evening!

I received my gear shifter today, and went to fit it after work this evening.

Unfortunately I ran into a problem and only realised there was a fault with the shifter when I'd already removed the old one!

If you look at the photo, on the left hand side of the selector I presume there should be a ball joint that one of the cables would connect to?

I can see on the new shifter where it has been machined, and a hole has been drilled with a thread but there's nothing there.

I've emailed K-Tec this evening so will hopefully get a reply in the morning! [emoji30]

After much swearing I refitted the original shifter so I could actually drive home...

I decided to tackle a job I wasn't overly looking forward to, but it wasn't actually that bad.

I have amassed quite a collection of Osram upgrade bulbs so turnes my attention to the front end. I attempted to use the 'covers' inside the wheel arch to gain access but unless you've the hands of an infant they're useless!

In the end I thought 'f**k it' and just took the front bumper off. Which made things much easier!

I forgot to take photos of the end product, as by this point I was shattered, but they are a massive improvement.

I'll let you know what happens with the shifter...

Yep missing a ballstud there.

I can't imagine how frustrating that was.. I've learnt after years in a bicycle workshop and receiving incorrect parts to check before taking old stuff old as otherwise tools could be heard thrown across the workshop followed by many expletives.... :-D:-D

Hopefully ktec will just send a ballstud out sharpish and a freebie for your time like a an induction cleaning kit???? ;-)

Yeah I wasn't best pleased mate. I was just going to leave it and walk home, but it was pissing it down and would of also been a pain pushing it round the workshop this morning.

I like your idea on the free cleaning though James, good shout!

Finally got the new shifter fitted last night!

K-Tec sorted out the missing ball stud, but they did need to send two after the first one went missing through a little hole, so I was essentially sent an empty envelope! [emoji23]

After having a little experience with this job it went without any problems apart from one of the battery tray torx bolts decided to round off...

It was worth the effort though as the difference in gear selection is phenomenal! I urge anyone with a Megane to consider this modification, as it improves the driving experience no end!
