Looking to buy a Clio 200 in white :)

  Renault Clio 5dr 1.2
Looking to buy a Clio 200, in white, this weekend, test driving one this weekend, what are they like?

this is the one

Love mine. Pain to keep clean in white though.

I got the lowest mileage one I could for the money and it's been trouble free so far.

What are you driving currently?

  Clio 197
Good cars which are a bunch of fun, but there will be someone by shortly to tell you that you simply looking at the gearknob will result in the gearbox shitting itself and needing a rebuild. Be sure to take an extended test drive because these cars certainly aren't for everyone.

yeah man, currently driving a 1.2 clio dyanmique 08 plate, had it for like 3 years and want somet quicker now i can get insured on them, its between this or a scirocco tbh but im more swayed to the 200 tbh, looks nicer, cheaper and quicker

Epic drivers, abysmal dailies

That one has the cup chassis, speedlines but looks to have no recaros, Which aren't necessary but are epic.
yeah, thing is my workplae is literally either a 5 minute drive or a 15 minute walk from my home so im not too fussed tbh, i could always bike to work too if it costs to much of a bomb

If the 200 suffers the same cold start kangarooing like the 197, my first port of call would be getting it mapped if it hasn't been.

The mpg isn't the worst bit about it tbh, they just constantly want to be driven like they're stolen lol. A 5 min commute won't be too bad though

I dailied mine for four years, 60 mile round trip. It wasn't awful but there are definitely better cars to do it in.
They don't have a lot of chill.

Which Scirocco are you considering? I loved mine, even though it was only the 1.4 TSI 122. You can get the 2.0 TSI models now for very cheap, which is basically just a Golf GTI with subjectively better styling and looks.

I'd personally test both and see what you prefer. They're 2 very different cars but both have their own appeal. I'd love a Clio 200 but i think i could tire of it after a while. I still hanker after one though!

That's fair.

I came from a 20 year old stripped out Golf as a daily so I think the clio is bliss compared. Do agree with what the lads are saying, unless doing 60 on the motorway I can't get it over 30mpg (still a vast improvement over my last cars)

Decent little motor. I wouldn't let the niggles put you off. Especially the cold start 'issue'. Just let it warm up for a minute...

hi, yeah the scirocco im looking at is a 2.0L TDI 170 GT, in white, just the prices of them are putting me off, mileage is about the same as the clio but costs 3K more

What mileage do you do roughly per annum? I personally wouldn't touch a diesel anything unless you're doing about 20k and majority motorway work. It'd be a 2.0 TSI every time! They can be had fairly cheap now as they do not hold their value quite as well as the Golf GTI and aren't as popular either.

tbh i dont even do about 10K, it's putting me off knowing it's a diesel but still its a pretty car

Don't bother then. DPF problems, EGR issues, won't get up to temperature quick enough so won't get good mpg, expensive to fix when they go wrong, i could go on.

Seriously though, why would you want the diesel version? There's pretty much no upsides to it and would not really benefit you at all.

Bargain cars. Prices are all over the place. 3 of the 4 I went to look at had knackered boxes (3rd and 4th) and if they had recaros they were worn. interior feels a bit cheap and typically Renault. Great fun though, my bro has one and I rented one for around Nurburgring. Needs some noise though.
