Just driven one this morning, really nice and smooth but there's a crunch when putting it into 4TH Gear, now I know this is a common issue, should I stay away from it ? That's the only issue is the 4th gear crunch, it's noticeable if I change gear quick but slow it isn't. Advice needed

Agency transmissions will rebuild the box for under £350 if it's just synchros.

But are you handy enough to remove it yourself?

Had the gearbox oil had a chance to warm up?

If the gearbox is crunching - its crunching and needs a rebuild - all this talk about oil is not worth mentioning tbh.

Mine never crunched, cold or warm, new or old oil. Use it as leverage on price

Correct. Start car in the morning put it in gear, done.

Start car in morning and wait 15 mins for the oil to maybe improve the above. Nah.

Gearboxes are made from fossils and decade-old Easter eggs. Other than that, they're a great car.
Five and a half years from new with mine; still love it.

A grand off, or find another one.

I'd go with option 2.

As said, it's an unfortunate but common problem. Some have issues, some don't but it's always something to be wary of with these. There's nothing to say that another one you drive won't have the same issue or even gain the problem at some point in the future afterwards. It's really hit and miss so it's up to you.

Have you test driven a Scirocco yet or do you have your heart set on the Clio?
