The battery light stayed on, and there was power to the stereo, lights etc.. but it just din't do anything. Since the day of me posting it has only happened once more, and apart form that it has started 1st time!

I've just starting having a problem with my 51 reg 172. When I got the car this morning I put the key in the ignition, turned and nothing happened. Nothing, starter motor dind't even try. So I turned the ignition off and tried again and still nothing, I did this about 5...
Get an after market.
I wanted a hidden tail pipe too, and didnt want a k-tec as I heard some maons about the quality, and theyre also meant to be fairly noisy. So I went to pro-speed and am very happy with it!!
Ok, so it may be a lil far from where you are, its in cardiff, but I drove 3...

Id go for a decent exhaust and perhpas decat if if you dont want to spend as much as coilover will cost you. Get rid of that piece of carp that Renault fit that will prob fall of in about a month!
Get a friendly MOT tester.......
It is the fact that it hasnt got a de-cat that will make it fail as there is no physical check to see if it has one, it is the fact that that having no de-cat tends to make them fail their emissions test (as far as I understand it)
That should be all of them from what I can rem, you just need to pull it forward 1st to unclip it, and then pull it upwars. Dont try and pull it up straight away.

Thats why I got a normal 172, cant imagine driving 50 miles a day without some of the comforts of air con etc...
But its what you want it for. I dont think anyone can tell you what is the best car for your needs unless they know what you are going to be doinf with it (they are so close), but...
If your trying to sell it, wouldnt you be better to take this opportunity to get it back to standard as you would have a better chance of selling it with no mods on it?
