Toad Cat 1 is about £110 and Cobra cat 1 about £130 on Amazon. So about £100 odd to fit it according to your estimation...
Have asked my local Renault dealer for a quote ... wonder what they'll come back with lol
Ok, further to my previous problems with my alarm which have started up again for no apparent reason (full moon perhaps?), i've decided to think about putting in a completely new alarm system. Being generally clueless in this area, I thought I would ask for some advice, in particular:
1) What...
didn't bother with taking the positive connection off, just the negative one. I reckon the short bursts of alarm for 20 seconds after I disconnected could have been down to some built up charge in the circuitry.
Ill hit the sack with some earplugs anyway and worry about it in the morning! lol
Sorry didn't mean to sound off there, just a bit panicked not to mention knackered.
Hasn't gone off in 10 minutes so fingers crossed thats done the job till I get it to a garage.
Is that a joke?
Perhaps the alarm is hooked up to something other than the car battery, like a smaller battery that retains some charge in case the battery runs flat. You still wouldnt want people breaking into your car to nick stuff, so might need an alarm even if the batterys dead and they...
ok, the negative terminal is disconnected. When i left it the alarm went off in short rapid bursts for about 20 seconds. To me that suggests that this may not solve the problem, as it can still go off while the battery is disconnected.
Ok im in a total panic, my alarm wont stop going off. Im in a residential block of flats and its 1am. Its going mental.
Theres some water leakage on the passenger side and the floor is soaked, and could be short circuiting the alarm.
I need ot disconnect the battery to shut this thing up...
Hi,
Rear left tail light has just been done in, anonymously. Not just a new tail light I need:
The black plastic light bulb housing that plugs into the electrics - is there an official name or part number for that? It got wrecked too.
While im here, does anyone have a spare one or know...
Right, the few guys I found that did sell part worns don't have them in my size. So unless anyone has a part worn 205/40/17 for sale, ill probably just get a new one from tyretraders or blackcircle or somewhere similar.
Theres sometimes a knock when I start her up and first move off from standstill. Not always tho, and generally only when its been at standstill for a while (so not when im stopped at lights for example).
No rubbing as far as I can tell, and handling seems fine.
Part worns eh.. ill check it out. Anyone know any reputable backstreet tyre fitters in edinburgh??
Yes aware of legality factor... not aware of fine quantity tho  dont drive it every day tho & not planning on anyway till I get it sorted, but thanks for the warning!
My two front tyres and rear left are at 3mm, my rear left (n/s/r) is at 1mm.
Could this be due to a dodgy n/s/r shock absorber (thats been diagnosed and fixed)?
Also, ive heard different people say different things about getting a second hand replacement tyre. Is this possible? The guy at...
So whats the general consensus - do exhausts make an impact on performance?
Im not really bothered about an extra 5bhp here or there, would rather be able to have a conversation on a 5hr journey along the M6...
Im in Edinburgh, so would have to order one and get a garage up here to fit it. Im not sure if this will be possible, ive spoken to some garages in the past (about separate matters) and they said they wont fit anything unless they supply the part.
Getting a bit annoyed with how loud it is in the cabin (im getting old). Pretty sure its down to the exhaust... think ive got a magnex back box with oval tail pipe. Anyway, long journeys are hell and you need to shout to have a conversation.
Can anyone advise if a new exhaust will make it a...
Ok, absolutely tiny amount of rust appearing on the lip of the boot, wouldnt even show up on a pic so no point in posting a photo. In fact, it could all be in my mind, but no harm in being over cautious...
Question is, are there any products on the market that I can use to seal over the lip...
Been quoted £115 total (parts and labour) to change a rear wheel bearing on our clio 172. Apparently you can just change the bearing (you don't have to do the break pads) but it will be a couple of hours labour... seems alot for a wee part... does anyone know if this sounds about right?
bump.
going in for service tomorrow. Is it worth askin to change gearbox oil or better to wait until after service to see if noise goes away from usual service work?
This noise is coming on at low speeds now (20-30mph +). Im scared to drive it.
Does this still sound like the gearbox oil needing replaced? Is it easy/cheap to do? (got a 72k service on wed inc timing belts, plus new rear axle bushes which is costing me a fortune!)
Quote just in:
72k Service including Timing Belt & Aux - £638 + vat inc parts & labour (5.2hr on belts, 2.6hrs on other services). This includes renewing the following:
Oil
Engine oil filter
Brake Hydraulic fluid
Cooland Anti Freeze
Air filter
Pollen Filter
Petrol Fuel filter
Timing...
Can anyone confirm if this place exists?
Writing in book is not overly clear, it could read Bassigaurd Garage. Either way, google cant find it.
(trying to track down service history)
Ahh Lochrin autos... just round the corner too!
Don't have permissions to view the thread tho, whats the jist of it... good write up for Lochrin?
Will get in touch & to get a quote from them.
And at the risk of sounding daft... and im sure ive done it before... but how do you post pics...
My garage has asked me for the "engine code", not the engine number, so he can give me a more accurate quote on a cambelt change. Quick search on forums brought up BenR's post on engine codes:
"phs1 172 - F4R 730
phs2 172 & cup - F4R 736
phs3 182 - F4R 738"
Ive got a W reg (2000) 172 - can I...
Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. Always good to know roughly what prices to expect. K-Tech if I was near you I would take it in to you but unfortunately im in Edinburgh & I doubt the current belts would last the trip!
So if im reading this correct, you guys do a Cambelt (& aux) change for £330 + vat, and the 72k service which includes the Cambelt (& aux) change for £290 + vat.
Or is it £290 for the service PLUS £330 for the belts?
(sorry if that sounds stupid, im still a bit new to all this servicing...
