Check the earth cable as they can break and cause your symptoms.

Check the pinch bolt is correctly tightened. Is the noise from inside the car or can you hear it outside as well? is it a recent issue ? Any work recently?

Yes can do , could be as simple as removing the end casing and refitting correctly the fifth gear set , may be lucky . Renault may well fix it correctly and fairly , or they may not , like anywhere it all depends on who's doing the job. Hope it is cheap easy fix.

renault alpine , and yes tried owners club. Trouble is , even if break i bearing the get it off , i cant just press that shaft into a new bearing. it is a pain .

no i take out the cages to show the shaft , the shaft has the grooves for the balls to sit in , dont know if its sweated on . its off an old alpine car , idler for auxillary belt. pic from other side. Thanks for all replies , and yes thinking about getting a shaft and same size bearing , but...

yes tried both these companies , they will supply a bearing , but i cant press out the centre shaft as it it forms part of the bearing , which neither place can help with , looking to see if someone can make me a complete unit.

are you sure its not an M4R engine ?

its because you are meant to remove the subframe , its very tight as where the oil pump sits. I normally raise the engine and support it from the top and lower the subframe , then you can twist it out. about 3 ish hours.
