    REAL motorway MPG

All of these figures are as good if not better than I used to get from a 1.2 polo! Even driving as economically as possible I used to struggle for 40mpg!

    REAL motorway MPG

I'm not bothered about MPG, I will just be doing quite a bit of boring driving so don't want to be throwing money away through appalling economy. I make trips upto the Lake District at least every 6 weeks or so and live in a rural area will be doing lots of more interesting driving, it's just...

    REAL motorway MPG

Impressive results! I was just reading something on the internet (on cliosport?)about diesels not being that efficient over a petrol at motorway speeds? Apparently the main reason reps etc. use them is because of the lower tax on diesel cars? Is this BS?

    REAL motorway MPG

Because a 172 is more fun than a focus tdci....:rasp: Those figures aren't too bad, I think I'm going to take the plunge and see how it goes!

    REAL motorway MPG

Right guys, I am buying a new car in the next few weeks and it will most likely be a 172! The problem is I commute 50 miles (round trip) pretty much all on the motorway and can't afford to be spending loads of money on fuel. What do people get with normal motorway driving (70mph-ish)? I can't...

    Need bass.........but not too much!

Yes, why? :clown: Lol Admittedly in the right box a decent 8" sub can do the business, but I don't think it would be appropiate in this thread or save space...

    Some Components and Amp Advice?

How about an Infinity Reference 475A? That'll power it all fine and will match the rest of your stuff? Personally I'm not keen on inifinity, on a low budget the JBL GTO1004 would have plenty left in it when powering that kit (which is a good thing).

    Not enjoy my new 182

Having a fun car in town when you are stuck in traffic etc just builds you up to have loads of fun when you eventually get out of town! That's always what happens to me when I'm driving out of Manchester, as soon as you get a bit of clear road you start smiling! You don't buy a clio for comfort

Fookin' hilarious! And so what I would do! ROFL!

    Not enjoy my new 182

To be fair driving around town all the time is dull as anything and I would get an automatic diesel! My mate has an astra VXR and doesn't take it out of the city...:S not a clue why! If you're driving out of town on decent road then personally I couldn't live with a diesel let alone an auto...

8"'s just don't drop low enough for my liking, they aren't proper subs.

    Some Components and Amp Advice?

/\ if you do it right then you should yep! I can reccomend the rainbow SLX265's. They are good little speakers and very smooth, also take plenty of abuse  6.5" is the way to go! Oh and spend plenty on sound insulation and fibreglass the mahoo-sive holes in the doors too!

    Need bass.........but not too much!

Simply - for actual "bass" you need a 10" at least. Remember an amp will need cooling, I used to have my amp in a false floor and if anything went on top of it it would protect itself from overheating and cut out....:dead: not cool! If I was you I would make a simple MDF box to suit the side...

    Need bass.........but not too much!

Sell your sony speakers (they're all crap anyway) and get some decent 6.5" components. Baffle them and insulate the front doors. It will be much better for a start, then you can take it from there!

    Need bass.........but not too much!

What's your budget?? 6*9's are a cheap option and personally I think they are a waste of money and wouldn't put them in my car if they were free (or you paid me a small amount :rasp:). Baffle the front speakers with MDF and insulate the doors, preferably fibreglass them sealed. That will help...

Insurance: How much are you paying?

That's interesting! They wouldn't even allow me to put genuine VW rims on my polo when I was 17! I told them I didn't care about claiming for them being stolen either, no deal they said!

Insurance: How much are you paying?

Are you allowed mods under 25 with DL? They've always been a pain with me. Great company apart from that though!

    £150 on ICE

Well to my ears, spending £150 on some decent quality, larger speakers, properly mounted in deadened doors will sound better than a FLI sub in the boot rattling your car to bits with low quality "bass" completely disregarding the mids and highs. The little Renault speakers in the doors just...

    Sub Box Terminal Question? (Pics)

I'd use some fairly long ones, at least an inch and a half if not quite a lot longer! Other than that it's personal preference (correct me if I'm wrong?). And Dink, I've never had a problem with standing waves....?

    Unbelievably cheap insurance

A couple of years ago Argos accidentally listed a certain model TV for about 10quid and lots of people whipped them up, unfortunately I got there too late : ( Don't make the same mistake I did! Buy it anyway! And to be fair, confused.com normally has a ridiculous range in prices, I think the...

    Stupid clocks question...

New clocks + new mileage doesn't matter, get it done at a proper place (preferably Renault) and they will certify the mileage when the clocks went back to 0. I don't know if the clocks will go back to 0, just saying if they do then it's not big deal, I've bought cars that have had problems...

    Sub Box Terminal Question? (Pics)

Yep, if your a tiny bit handy and have decent tools you should be able to make a decent job of it! I would carpet the sealed box (without the sub and terminal in) then cut the carpet around where the holes are, you should be able to tuck the carpet under the lip of the sub and terminal.....if...

    Sub Box Terminal Question? (Pics)

Yer that's what I mean, that site is crap and wont let you enter 13" exactly, if you make your 13" exactly though it wont affect the volume much, but will make it easier to measure ;) Good luck!
  25. L

    Sub Box Terminal Question? (Pics)

That looks fine, VIBE don't specify a volume on their site from what I can see. Like I said, between about 0.6-0.9 cu.ft will be ok - 0.88 sounds good to me! If I were you I would adjust the measurments to make them a round number and metric, to make it easier to cut etc. In B&Q get some...

    Sub Box Terminal Question? (Pics)

Check this site out, I couldn't find it yesterday... http://www.bcae1.com/spboxnew2.htm Read the first bit then you can use the calculators to mess about with dimensions (it works out the volumes and panel sizes for you) It also shows you how to make the joins. As long as they are rock solid...

    £150 on ICE

If I were you I would spend it on some half decent front components (16.5cm) for about £100. I would then spend the rest of the money making baffles then sealing and insulating the doors with fibreglass and dynamat. If you are a bit handy it's the best way to spend your cash IMO.
  29. L

    Replacement speakers for my 172?

On you budget I would go for some 16.5cm speakers with in-line crossovers. It makes installation much easier. You can run them off your standard headunit but upgrading the headunit will improve sound quality. Installing an amp with a new headunit will be an improvement again.
