I am stuffed as Renault have told me that my centre section and backbox are rusted to hell.
The sum of all parts required to replace these is ~£500 excluding labour.
I said I will get a custom (powerflow etc) exhaust made but Powerflow say they need renault exhaust mounts, and renault say...
No not the bread van. Im moving to New Zealand in July so need to sell up and get something different out there (Holden 5.7L? hehehe)
I know the car would sell better with the mods removed but I really cant be @rsed to take them all off. Would need to fill and respray the 172 spoiler to remove...

Hey guys,
My backbox fell off this morning (which was nice). I plan on selling the car in 2 months so want a fairly cheap repair option.
From memory the Renault system on a Mk1 172 is one unit, so a replacement from them would cost a fortune.
What do people recommend? powerflow? - I dont...
Dont forget that the speedo readout is affected by the size of your wheels anyway., It may look like you are getting slower top speed but the sppedo is not to the right configuration anymore anyway!
Plus, all speedos are fairly inaccurate past 100mph
I must admit that if the sport is added to improve the look of the car, why not go for a different badge like the sporting ones seen on Fiats for example?
I bet nobody would do that though...because fiat sportings are all slow?
I ve had three bouts of bad luck:
1) Throttle cable snapped racing a 325i £120
2) Fusebox wiring went mental (dont know why) and immobiliser wouldnt allow the car to start £190
3) Handbrake slipped at mates house and car rolled into a wall £400+
Actually 4 because some bloke smashed my...
Er... you serious? They are about as legal as having a fire-eater blow flames out of the windows as you are going along.... i.e. there is probably nothing in the lawbook - but if you melt anyones bumper or burn their legs to a crisp outside Sainsburys you will be in some kind of trouble...
Mines an import, no warranty issues but thats expired now anyway. No difference in the cars as far as I know (except for some reason my registration number never brings up details of the car or me etc)
Have you got any pictures of car itself Brun? I have seen lots of engine bay pictures but havent seen the outside of the car! :)
...engine looks good though!
Is it difficult to remove Renault / Clio / Sport from the boot of a 172 without breaking the badges?
My car is going in to the garage on Wed to have the boot sprayed, I know that the Sport badge is about £20 by itself. Will I need to replace all the badges or can they be removed without breaking?
You got bigger wheels Sawa? My 17s rubbed like mad on the plastic trim inside the front bumper when I first got them and lowered it. They dont rub no more tho.... burnt a big hole through it.... heheheh
Made a hollow whirring noise on long bends
Will do that in future (learnt this in the harshest way though!!)
Unfortunately the most expensive bit will be the bumper as (from what I have been told before) it is too flimsy to fill and paint. So I will prob need a new part from Renault £££££££.
I have seen a Mk2 rear bumper on Ebay for...
