Not advisable to drive it but I drove mine a fair distance on 3 and it then fixed it self. Fuel consumption will be crap and a horrendous drive just drive it softly if you really need to. Like mine you may find it springs back to life

If he isn't changing gear like a monkey on speed then the syncros should keep up and be fine If you're repeatedly mashing through the gears then expect trouble. I rape mine through the gears with a ridiculously quick change and yet to have any problems
