172/182 Torque Wrench Settings

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
Can we progressively populate this guide with torque wrench settings so we have a one stop place for all know torque settings:

Idlers: 55nm
Cambelt Tensioner: 28nm
Crank Pulley Bolt: 40nm + 110deg (there's 4 different values, but Fred uses that one, that equates to 130-140nm normally)

Rocker/CAM cover - 8NM in sequence, (Laine_16v advises: 'If you dont have a low range torque wrench, finger tight + 1/4 turn has never failed me')

Is this correct for the aux kit?

Idler 3.2 daN.m (32Nm)

Tensioner mounting bolt (hex) - 6.2 daN.m (62Nm)

Torx bolts on tensioner (on the spring) - 2.1 daN.m (21Nm)

? Going by the conversion: 1 DaNm = 10Nm

Is that correct?

And 17Nm for the water pump bolts yep?

Can we progressively populate this guide with torque wrench settings so we have a one stop place for all know torque settings:

I've just come to this thread looking for some info and found it really helpful as a quick reference list so have book marked it. Would be good if we could get some more torque settings as well as geting everything double checked/confirmed that needs it. I've added some of the info from subsequent posts that hasn't been edited into the OP yet and tried to clean the list up a bit. Sorry if anything's in the wrong section or whatever, feel free to change it...! There's also a link to workshop manuals here

So, as this is in a pretty far flung corner of the forum, it's not really getting any traction/response, though quite a few views on the thread (probably via Google searches).

With that in mind I've started collating settings from other sources as well and put them into a Google Doc.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Bm4lA93rLHlnkMVbX0fg3Cs4bS7_uFbHOBoFHi5M_OQ/edit

Current list.......

This list has been compiled with information from internet groups (CSOC), forums(ClioSport.net), real world specialists, workshop manuals and Autodata for a 2003 172.
It is intended as a quick reference list and not a definitive or in depth guide; if you are in any doubt, read the bloody manual!

All corrections, suggestions and additions VERY welcome!!

**Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the settings are correct, use them at your own discretion!**

Done :)
chaski did PM me about this too. I'll look to feature it more on the new forum along with some of the other most useful threads / guides.

Cheers guys :)

I won't lie, reading the manual got both a bit confusing with regards to succinct ways to explain which bolt was which and where it's situated, so there's probably better descriptions to be had for some of them! It also generally got a little tedious after a while! Haha.

The list was a great idea though @The Fatty. It's got me thinking it might be good to do a parts # list as well somewhere. I know there have been databases/lists before but they don't seem to be working/hosted any more and attempted to include current pricing. A list of just the part numbers and what they are though would require a lot less maintenance and could therefore be left as a relatively static forum thread.

I see there is a setting for steering rack mounts?.but what about the actual steering rack bolts that hold it to the subframe or is that the same bolts?

  dan's cast offs.
the head bolt torque listed are wrong!!!!

spoken to two people in the last two weeks who've done a head gasket and suffered from it weeping along the front edge.

head bolts should be torqued to 30nm and then the gasket left to compress, i normally hook the exhaust manifold in place and spin the nuts on by hand and then they should be torqued to 30nm AGAIN. then finally 180 degrees.

so 30nm
30nm again
180degrees.

Have the values been updated since the manual then?

  dan's cast offs.
Pass, not looked at what Renault say, think the figures came from autodata possibly? But have always done similar with mls gaskets. Seen plenty of people just do the one and then 180 and have weeping along the edge of the head/block.

I've searched for ages and can't seem to find the setting.

Does anybody know the torque setting for the rear beam bushes and the 6 carriage bolts that go through the body to hold the shackles on?

Does anyone know the torque settings for the bolts holding the cup alternator brackets to the engine?
the 3 bolt for the upper bracket and the 5 for the lower bracket?
thanks!

1. Alternator upper support mounting bolt - 38Nm + 0.4
2. Alternator upper support mounting bolt - 32Nm + 0.3
3. Alternator/block tie-rod mounting bolt - 62Nm +0.6
4. Alternator upper mounting bolt - 32Nm +0.3
5. Alternator lower mounting bolt - 38Nm +0.4

A lot of the bolts in the illustration won't apply to you but bolt number 3 goes directly into the block so i'd say 62Nm is where you'd need to be on all the other bolts from bracket to engine block.

The rest are between 32 & 38 Nm but you'll have to use your judgement.
