Fitting Airbag Resistors - HELP

-J-

  RS2'ed 172 Cup
Standard seats are now out and Bimarcos fitted so I have no Pretensioners and obviously the SERV and Airbag lights have come on.

Right I have seen this - http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=507739&highlight=pretensioner+resistor

However my wires differ (Possibly due to it being a 172 Cup not a 172 or 182)

This is what I have, I have some 3.3 Ohm resistors, but where do I put them? -

On the last picture, the resistors go between the brown and orange wires. Black is the earth. Is the one of the left the one that was attached to the seat?

Just cut the red/black connector end off, and attach the resistors to the wires Pikey style :)

So is it only the Brown and Orange wires on the Black connectors that need the Resistor?

The Grey connector I presume is the Airbag connector (Do 172 cups even have seat airbags?) And the Black and Red connector the Pretensioner?

Yes to the first one.

The grey one is the pretensioner that sits into the one on the seat IIRC. Not sure which you'll need to put the resistors into on that as I put trendlines in mine, so it was like for like in that respect. Best thing would be to put the resistors in to the holes to see when the light goes out on the dash.

No cup seats have no airbags

Ok So I'm sorted with the Black one, Nice and straight forward, Now I just need to sort out what to do with the Grey connector. :)

As said, connect the resistors to the black on to eliminate that one. Then just trial and error on the other one really. Not many combos to try, unless you've taken both seats out already ;)

How did you get on? How come Tom/James didn't do them for you when they fitted the seats?

How much did you pay btw if you don't mind me asking? Not including fitting. Presumably they aren't too much of a ball ache to fit? Was the RS decal included or is that something you did extra?

Where did you get the resistors from?

I could do with some of these, but I have no knowledge of electonics and wouldn't know where to pick up a 3.3ohm resistor, I went in to Maplin before and they just sold bags of resistors that had different voltages so I just walked out :(

Bit of an edit and googl'ing.

Will these things do the job? and do I have to pop one in each side?

JMS Could have done them, but they mentioned that you can now switch the light off with the RS Tuner...

I planned to do this but found out my RSTuner is to old to run the updated Firmware to allow me to do it :( and a couple of resistors were cheaper than buying the new RSTuner ;)

I got the Seats off Ed on here 2nd hand for just over £700 the pair :)

Got mine from Maplins, Just asked the chap for them and he got them from 'out the back'.

That said the ones you have listed in the Ebay add should do the trick.

Cheers mate.
I'll pop up Maplin tomorrow and ask the guys in there.
Then I'll give it a blast.

Ahhh a man in the same predicament!

Ok, so to sum up, all you did was put a resistor between the brown and orange wires on BOTH of those connectors? Cut the plastic black and red clip off altogether and join the orange and brown wires with a resistor?

What about the weird microplug thing as shown in my pic?

On the black/red plug, the black wire is the earth, so you bridge the two coloured wires with a resister. You don't need to cut it off, you should be able to pull it apart (The red bit will probably snap)

If you're using existing seatbelts, just leave the grey connectors connected.

The bit you're holding in your hand is the seat position sensor, normally sits on the driver side rail nearest the handbrake.

I've made a new guide with more detail since this thread was made. Its very near the top of the guides section:

Much apreesh James. I've seen your guide thanks. I've plugged in the grey block to the seat on the driver's seat and put a 3.3Ohm resistor on the same plug on the passenger side (as there was no plug from the seat as it had been butchered by previous owner).

This has got rid of my lights! Can't help thinking it was too easy!? Guessing cos it's a cup and didn't have seat airbags anyway, plus I'm using standard seatbelts?
So the seat position sensor plug and the black/red plug are now redundant and my car will be ok for an MOT?

Thanks a lot.

I'm having roughly the same problems, and rather than posting a new thread I thought I would just highjack this one:)

Its a 172 Cup so not sure if slighty different.

I have fitted to my car a Sabelt steering wheel which I placed two 3.3ohm resistor's between the two airbag connections I doubled over the resistors to make a good connection.
My car is also stripped out at the rear so I have placed two more 3.3ohm resistors on the two rear seatbelt pretensioners.
I have also fitted aftermarket Bimarco Futura seats not using the orignal seatbelts and harnesses instead.

On the drivers side, one resistor is connected between the ORANGE & BROWNwire's on the BLACK/RED plug. Once the resistor was placed into these connections I used a meter which read 3.3ohms between the connections. Which I take it, it has made a good connection?
The other resistor was placed between the ORANGE & BROWN wire's again on the GREY plug. I cut off this plug from these wires to get a better connection using a coch block. Once the resistor was placed into these connections I used a meter which also read 3.3ohms between the connections.
As shown below:

The passenger side was done exaclty the same and 3.3ohm was read between the connections.
d7feb358.jpg

The rear seatbelt pretensioners where also tested and read 3.3ohm between them so these must also be working correctly?

Now I have done all the above and followed all the guides and my light is still on! I turn the car on and it comes on, goes off and then comes back on!
Only thing I can think of is;
1. The ECU needs a reset (but I'm sure they reset them selfs)
2. The grey plug on the passenger side needs more reistors as theres a few more cables?
3. The steering wheel airbags are not being "shorted" out as I cant test them using a meter (no connections to test)

Any help would be appreciated:)

Just to edit, is there anyway I could have blown it up fiddling with them to turn the light out whilst the car is running?

I have the same problem as above, done it all (but I am a women so idk what a pretensioner is or what it looks like as I seen a pic but I dont seem to have one (non sport tho?) ) but I still have my light on! I brought 4 3.9 ohms as that is what it said on a different thread and now I am all confused as to why it hasnt gone out! Like above it goes out for a few seconds and then comes back on again :/ HELPP!!! :D

Ive done it !! I dont have any pretensioners just trial and error and a lot of resistors!!

Cheers, i figured that, however it is going to be irritating putting the battery back on and then finding out the resisters aren't in correctly!
