UK market is really sensitive with mileage and I cannot understand why. Almost two years ago when I bought my 182 I looked around 20 cars. Most of the “low mileage” cars were in worst condition than the higher mileage cars. Coolant leaks, perished bushes and rubbers, sticky calipers, no regular service and more.
My experience has taught me not to buy a low mileage car if I want to use it as an everyday car if it hasn’t been used and hasn’t been serviced at least every year. Unless you buying it as an investment and you are not planning to use it. I will explain exactly what I mean.

I will give an example.
Let say that i'm looking to buy a Clio Trophy. I have found 2 cars that i'm going to look.
1st a 05 plate with 50K on the clock with most off the mileage covered when was up to 5 years old and since then some odd miles here and there, with odd service history and big gaps.
And the 2nd a 05 plate with 90K on the clock with all the mileage spread evenly on her entire life i.e 7.5K and serviced every year
Both are advertised at the same price.
Believe me or not I will buy the higher mileage car

For me in order to buy a low mileage car will have to tick 2 main boxes
Mileage has to be spreaded and has to be serviced at least once every year (if not twice for the obvious reasons low mileage) and that was the 182 that i bought. i bought it with 61K on April 15 with the mot history showing that the car was used every year covering between 4.5 to 5.5K serviced every year on time and now has healthy 78K

A friend bought a 530D which he thought had 170K on it (that's what was showing anyway)... after checking the MOT history, it had been clocked about 4 times and had around 500K on it... LOL
... it may well of had a new engine and clocks wound back to match, but it had little history. Either way, it pulled well whilst smoking like a coal train.

My last BMW e34 which was on 192k, and my last Mk2 golf which was on around 174k (on the shell anyway). Still regret selling the Mk2 :(

A friend of mine recently bought an octavia, ex taxi, 70k miles. He bumped into a mate who used to work for a local taxi firm and they recognised the car. Because taxis dont have proper mots there is no record of the mileage so the old owner/taxi driver clocked it down from like 200k!

Still scrubs up well, just a case of refreshing/upgrading everything underneath now!

128k on the Trophy and still pulls like a train! With a healthy top end, new belt kits and dephaser it ticks over nicely, probably smoother than some lower mileage F4R's!

How do the higher milers handle trackdays and such? Anything that seems to get finnicky as they get older?
Same as any car, if well maintained they are fine. Mines heading for 170k and does 3-4 trackdays a year. Most of those without fault, but the times it had issues, gearbox has been most troublesome.
My previous 80k 182 failed massively with the bottom end going a couple of weeks of buying it. my 132k 172 was still going ok and was only broken due to the body being tatty.
