How much for Cambelt to be changed

Hi, I am going to have my cambelt checked within a few weeks and wondered how much it will cost. Someone mentioned to me that then engine needs lifting to do the job! Is this true.

So how much have you lot paid for this job?

Kev

does the waterpump have to be done at the same time? How do you know if the weterpump needs to be done? And how many miles has you car done?

90k, it jus makes a wurrin noise wit the occasional squeak! and no it doesnt have to be changed at the same time but i thought might as well get the cambelt changed as well and save myself the labour as they av to take it off ne way!

Mine was £130 including the belt to get changed. £157 aint a bad price, not a good one but loads cheaper than ren though

It isnt a Engine out job. Just a pig f**ker off a fiddly job!!!

Get the pump done as well mate! Mine had done 90K when I changed the engine so I replaced it at the same time!

What you have to do it take the engine mount off on the drivers side and jack the engine up as high as possible to give you a bit more room. YOu really need to take the bonnet off and get as much stuff out of the way as possible. Not engine out, but kinda not far off hehe.

Hi guys, mines done 74k, and am seriously thinking it needs changing too, the only probs is the price is REALLY putting me off, been quoted around £900 from 1 garage and there is NO WAY I can afford that. Anyone from round the Essex area know any good places to go to get it done???

Cheers guys

Essex_Lad that seems a bit steep for an RT change as its alot easier than the 16v. I paid £80 for cambelt, fanbelt and powersteering belt. Maybe i got a bargain

Yep sure is mate!!!!!!!!!! Unless you have a 2 yr old who can get their hands in and do it for you. I took the front headlamp out for easier access. Took around 3 hrs for the whole job for me.

i got a waterpump and timin belt replaced! i got quoted 90 but then they realised it was a b**ch to do, so they charged me £30 for the belt and the rest labour! ars rapin if u ask me but it had to be done!

Sure?? cos how come some places charge close to a grand for it then? I know its (generally) an engine out job, but how come the big dif in price? Id travel that far to get it that cheap, as long as its ok.

£1k for a cambelt change im guessin thatll be Jap cars or something coz otherwise ur car would be a write off everytime the batsard snapped! lol!

you dont get much better than BBTuning. Honestly. I got a quote from a garage who wanted £350 or something but then other places do it a lot cheaper.

At the end of the day these guys at BBTuning specialise in Renaults and know more about them than any garage. Whoever wants £900 is having a laugh.

Try this link: It says the fitted price at the bottom of the page. Got to add Vat though.

Well, colchester is about 0 mins drive from me so might do it, now what to do for the 5 hours theywill be doing it.

Seriously, some places charge almost £1k. One place told me a guy came in with a valver, they didnt know how much work it would be, and he ended up £1k lighter, apparently he wasnt amused!!!
