I keep seeing a lot of cars with no number plates on track, are they velcro'd on and just removed for track work?

  Mk1 Focus RS
Yeah its quick enough on the roads not many things get away

Yeah just buy giant coins made by Velco' of eBay to stick them on with like here

This was early 2016 at Snetterton, the car was still so good in the damp/wet conditions, the traction control system works so well pulling the car back in line even with the engine conversion its feels like a factory setting.

Thanks Dr Jekyll, a lot of thought went into the style a design

Just ordered these. We were after a good quality wheel stud to replace the current bolts, first off the bolts are a pain to line up with the spacers and second they have seen a fair amount of work, some people say you should replace every season due to the stretch and strain they are put under.

Proper TUV approved, 10.9 grade hardness, high quality race spec bullet nose wheel stud conversion kit

http://www.elite-d.co.uk/race-wheel-stud-conversion-kit-14-x-1-5-82mm-Renault/

I'd recommend avoiding cheap eBay versions as you don't save your self much money. And defiantly not in the long run if they fail.

This was a Pistonheads sunday service at Silverstone earlier this year, Jack my brother took the car as I was away.

In the McLauren tiled garage at the start of the day.......

So after striping the car down, found a few ball joints could do with replacing, they weren't to bad but rather do them now,

Lower arms, dropped them off at a friends work shop, the lower ball joint that goes into the hub screws out with a bit of heat a punch and hammer, new OEM ones to be screwed back in, and the rears pushed out on a press ready for black power flex bushes.

Going to give them a little clean up but they are alloy so won't rust,

Also sorted a box of parts to be powder coated, and cleaned the parts in the black box ready to be refitted to the engine.

The car had it in, but my brother had an Alien green 200 before as yes it felt different but, different not really any better or worse just feels like a deferent car.

This grey one handles well enough with just the springs.

Where did you get the replacement lower arm ball joints from, wasn't aware they were available separate. I've got a spare set of arms I'm going to rebush but the ball joints are goosed so could do with some replacements.

Hi Russ, I've only seen them on eBay from that Ro fag guy that sells loads of genuine renault sport stuff, there aunt cheap and I'm almost weighing up just buying new arms and keeping these as spare, £75 EACH plus £10 postage

Where did you buy your sway bar links from? Ordered 1 by mistake thinking it was a pair for over £30.

And I'm thinking those ball joints must come in another car, We just need to track down what. Bit like the map sensors for a 250 Megane, they are over £200 with discount and you can get 2 from a dacia sendaro with the EXACT same part number for half the price. Renaultsport tax!

So being 6ft tall, I find with the seat far back, the steering wheel feels a little stretched with the harnesses on,

I see this neat spacer a guy in Monza, Italy the he had made up to retain the standard wheel as we want to keep the controls and clubsport look, please get in contact with him if you want one, not cheap mind around £170 with postage

Before fitting,

This steering wheel we had re covered last year by Royal steering wheel, great turn around and they do a fitting and exchange service. Loads of options but this is grey not black alcantara, grey stitching and yellow band to match the rev counter

Not yet fitted but here's just another picture of the steering wheel, there is a thing I've seen where you can space the column down, say another 10/15mm with nut or spacer, we are going to do that at the same time to get it drop down some more, as those standard Recaro CS seats sit so high it used to feel normal.

Cheers mate, seen the guy advertise on eBay, never seen the ball joints though, might drop him a message.
Got both sets of drop links off eBay, can't remember the seller, got a feeling one was from France.

And a few other brackets, not going to mad as you won't see most things and still want the car looking O.E, these cost £100 as it is. Really pleased with the results, so much better than painting due to the durability and long lasting.

Finished the heat shielding on the bulk head, added some extra in areas and made it wrap around the servo, as the car did melt the vacuum pipe once on track before we owned it.

C832E208-FB7E-4853-8907-63BE9FABC2CD.jpg

And just cleaned the best we could.

Covered the said vacuum hose, and made a shield

B4D8E133-7742-4774-91CA-A5B707348747.jpg

Cleaned and covered the steering rack with some heat shielding, held tight in place with stainless steel cable ties

D28A4347-0B0A-49FF-A7EB-432646865EC6.jpg

We wrapped the down pipe in bronze heat wrap, will get it heat coated next time its out but had this so used it up.

28FF6212-9A8C-4275-B0E9-99DB869911DF.jpg

Finally, cleaned up the new engine, just waiting on Renault for some new gaskets and we can start building it back up and swing it in.

Slow updates, even though the car is in the garage Its an hour away from home so finding time is hard with studying an apprenticeship and college work.

Went to Autosport back in Jan though, great event, any one that hasn't been needs to go next year!

I know I wanted a few bits and its a great chance to get some good deals bouncing the big companies off each other, most offer vat free without asking. Demon Tweaks etc

I got a Schroth Hans device after looking at all the other ones, being nice I just wanted Schroth

1873F0AD-BF2E-48A0-A89F-7C28284A9DF6.jpg

And also a carbon Bell gp3 helmet as my current bell you can't fit the Hans posts. Still waiting on that to arrive though.

Ordered new drop and sway bar arms, means that nearly all the front end moving parts have been replaced along with the poly bushes

6F3BC17C-A8EC-4994-9C2A-7BECE68AEAD6_1.jpg

Genuine Renault turbo down pipe studs as I had one drilled out and heli coiled by a machine shop as one had snapped in the exhaust housing, all new copper nuts as well with steel inserts, also all new studs and nuts on the turbo to manifold

0C246EC0-A8D1-45A9-B5F4-A1FFBBE993BF.jpg

Thats about it, went to refit the engine last weekend, re fitting the clutch a bolt snapped in the single mass flywheel halting play that day, my friend removed that at his work shop in the week and I ordered new Fly wheel bolts from Renault parts direct and some new ARP bolts for the clutch off eBay. Soon as they arrive its just a case of clutch gearbox on and I can drop the engine back in.
