Saxo VTS as a track car

  Fiesta ST Stage 3
Not this year as iv spent enough on it for now and with some fuel in the tank it will sit more level at the back but still with a front rake .

It can all be taken off and the stock parts put back on if I want but this will not happen I think .

not tempted to reset the rear slightly lower to keep it more level, surely its going to nose down badly under braking like that?

overall though great work on the refit and for not actually 'ruining' it as all the bits are just bolt on anyway! lovely stuff!

Ok so with 3 and a half weeks to go before the Nurburgring trip Tyre leader have lost my Nankang NS-2R tyres , the new thermostat is still playing up and not opening all the time causing the car to overheat and when removing some of the sound insulation I have nicked a fuel line and fuel is leaking in to the passenger foot well .

Nothing like a last minute rush LOL

Nothing is ever easy J

Ok so an update .

Tyres have been found and will be fitted today along with the tracking .

I have installed a VTR fuel line as this is the only stock fuel line in the country it would seem . It is a bit longer but all the connectors and size is the same as the VTS .

The cooling system is now working spot on and is running cooler after installing a 306 GTI 6 82 deg thermostat and bleeding the car for a 4th time .

Just a few more checks and we are done J

Nearly there with the car .

Nankang NS-2R tyres fitted yesterday .

They are 195/50/15 so just about fit and I mean just with only a few mm clearance .

The stock size are 195/45/15 but I can’t get any semi slick tyres in this size so have had to go for the 50 profile .

had a few spear mins so thought I would see how much the build has cost me .

I could have done this much cheaper using second hand parts but all the parts are new .

So all in with the cost of the car and all the parts it is £ 3,644 all in .

So with the VTS now done bar an oil change I thought I would give it a proper run to work ( 40 miles each way ) and what an amazing little car this thing is .

It has surprised me how it can keep up with traffic low in the rev range and has a real kick to 5500 RPM to the red line .

Handling is great and has lots of grip and even the refreshed stock size breaks really stop the car very well .

A Saxo VTS / 106 GTI is already a great little car but add basic breathing mods ( 4-2-1 manifold , induction and full exhaust ) and remove around 100 Kg and they are right little weapons .

Happy with my choice about going for a Saxo VTS for a track car and I’m sure it will be great fun at the ring in a few weeks .

If it makes it back in one piece next year I will look at …

Full or half roll cage

Bucket seats

306 GTI-6 front breaks

Cat cams

New / refurbed rear sub frame / torsion bar

They rarely match up perfectly on Saxo's I have read

Below is from another forum

I had my tracking done yesterday on a hunter allignment machine and got a full digital readout on caster, camber and toe for front and rear (excluding castor for rear obviously).

The angles which are not adjustable though (every thing except front toe) are not equal from side to side etc, just wanted to know if this sounds okay or if something sounds bent:

NSF camber: -1.02 degrees
OSF camber: -0.06 degrees

NSF caster: 0.55 degrees
OSF caster: 1.06 degrees

Can't argue with science

Lol

That’s it all now done and ready bar I did just order some light weight door cards and pull straps but that will be the last thing .

  Fiesta ST Stage 3
Ok so after saying the car is done and I will not get anymore bits this year I could not help getting a OMP steering wheel to finish the car off .

It is an OMP flat 300mm and done in suede .

So my lightweight door cards turned up just in time to fit them along with the Blue door pulls so last night I installed them .

That is now it and we will see if the car makes it back or if I will need to look for a new track toy :)

  Fiesta ST Stage 3
Ok so after the trip to the ring im left with the car that is not too happy and I lay the blame with the G/F for maxing it to 130 MPH on the autobahn :)

The main problem is the gearbox is whining very bad and crunch / will not go in to second and third
The power steering is playing and needs some working to kick in
the car is going through coolant and I cant see any leeks so might be head gasket
Sun roof is leaking
Engine runs a bit lumpy at low revs and sometimes wants to stall

So in a nut shell I think I have managed to kill the car with just one trip to the ring so need to have a think on what to do .

It was still a amazing little thing and handled amazing on the track .
