Starting at £1,800 and 97k miles. Cambelt done at 80k, 18months ago.

I have owned the car for just over 2 years and it has been a fantastic little car. The car comes with the usual Ph1 spec including half leather, half alcantara interia, A/C, E/W, E/M, trip computer. I have left the bodywork standard but i have changed a few things elsewhere on the car:

Engine: Polished and painted inlet manifold
Pipercross panel filter
90 degree red silicon induction bend
Painted engine cover and air box
K-tec supersport recessed exhaust with k-tec decat (standard cat included)
RS Tuning rolling roaded at 164.9bhp (graph to prove)
Suspension: adjustable shock and springs all round
Rare 16" anthacite OZ F1s (plus spare)
4 Toyo t1r tyres (all less than a year old)
ICE and interia:Fly SWAT 5 head unit
Ph2 interia door handles
HID dipped beam upgrade (plus spare bulbs)

The cambelt was changed at 79975 miles which was about a year and a half ago (dephaser pulley changed too) and it was last seviced on 2/11/09. The car have been very well looked after and overall is in excellent condition inside and out and i will be sad to see it go. The reason i am selling it is because i now have to travel to work and now have a diesel. If i could afford to run both cars i wouldn't think twice about it.

High miles but looks tidy from the pics!

Not the looks yuou tools! The miles creeping up and the general condition of stuff on the car maybe needing replaced!

for me a 1 in 31 colour is not bad, £1800 starting but reserve not made. I wouldnt say the mileage is 'that bad' given its 9.5 years old, 10k a year, so fairly often usage, which means it hasnt sat as an ornament somewhere decaying!

Probably wont get any bids as a few ph1s been punted on the bay/ trader for 1300 and stuff.

There is a genuine phobia about mileage, especially near the dreaded '100k'.

Worth breaking it back to simple parameters, its done 28 miles a day, or 195 per week. Not that bad.

Funnily enough I was speaking to an exhaust 'specialist' yesterday and he was surprised I was on 90k mileage on a clio. I dont think its that big an achievement really as its in use and whilst there have been components that have been replaced through wear and tear, I dont think its completely unexpected on vehicles 7,8,9 years old.

Agree 100% that once over 100k people really start to switch off. Its a shame as 100km on the continent doesnt worry people, its more like 200km's (120k miles) that people start to shy away from.

Some will be in the 'its been used daily camp, so mechanically in frequent use, which may be a positive. Although more 'wear' on mechanical items'. Others goes with the 'its low miles and hardly used, so less mechanical failures will occur'

Big can of worms. If your buying it with intention of keeping it for a few years, the higher mileage ones may prove better value for money reflected in their asking price and the fact they should depreciate less. Looking at some 106 gti's/ xsi's they are over 130k miles and are asking for same money as 80-90k ones now. Ok they are 1995 M's and N's etc, but shows you as age grows it will be how much care and replacement of parts has occured.

My problem is that:

1) I'm a student for at least the next year, so being high milage something mechanically is bound to go wrong.
2) I travel around 20k a year, which would send this one into the high HIGH milage and it would be such a shame to have to sell this on with even higher mileage and not get much money back for it.

I did sit and think long and hard for a few days about it though.

When i was in Nz my buddy was driving a legacy estate on 340k. 100k what!?


As well as it's been looked after well it'll be fine i think. Cars can do so much more than 100k.

Id have absolutley no problem buying a high mileage 172/182 principally because im familliar with them, i know what to expect.

That Sunflower id have no qualms about buying, shame the timing isnt right, i do plan to have another

same as this for me. I'd not bother with a clio with less than 80k tbh, engines need loosening up to make the best power anyway. going to have to free up some money if these keep coming up :(

It's not high miles, it's average.

You can say a 10 year old car with 80,000/90,000 miles is high surely.

10/12k a year is average. I wouldn't buy a ph1 with under 80k either.

There will be 10year old cars on 40k, but they're going to be rare. And you'll pay a hefty premium for it.

Hutchies iirc, the engine bay is horrific though, im really not a fan of coloured top plenums and fancy lettering.

A clean engine bay is just as good! :eek:

I can't understand people who won't buy a car because of high mileage.

My brother recently bought a 1.4 MK4 golf, basic spec, T Reg, paid £2,900 for it. Wanna know why he was raped and then raped again? 22,000 miles. I just laughed.

I paid £4,000 for the Saab, 2.0l turbo, every toy possible, full service history, 99,000 miles when I bought it.

Plus, if you aren't a complete Cretin with a spanner, a lot of issues raised with high mileage cars can be fixed without the need of taking it to a garage.

Exactly. If I only did average 12k a year, I would have no problem taking it as the mileage wouldn't be stupid when I went on to sell and it would sell easier than a car that has nearly 150k on it.

Very nice Hutchy, i love Ph1's, as for the mileage its fine. My mate has a Ph1 with 140k+ miles on it and it pull like a train.

this is my car :cool: Granted it has done a few miles but it has been very well looked after.

as he says, i saw this week before last at the whitby meet, very well kept, i have some great pics of it. bargain at that price too.

the 1 in 31 status is your key here. Very much doubt there is 31 left as well.

I wouldnt say the mileage is a huge issue as you seem to have documentated the major milestones in the cars life and service history.
