The Ford Appreciation Thread

  Clio 172, Escort RST
Wannabe track car I reckon. The cage only had spreader places for two of its 6 feet! The cage has now long gone along with evidence of it ever being there.

The history of the car is something like the following.

It was stripped to a shell where it was previously converted this way and then rebuilt back up afresh with a new Power Engineering 1.9 engine, to replace the one that had been there (also a 1.9). It then went from a specialist who built it up to his friend. It laid parked up for ages. It then went elsewhere where there were problems with the 1.9s running. The ZVH then went in its place. The next owner wanted to do what I was doing to it but then decided it was too much work. After that I entered the picture. Since I have sorted a number of niggles he is keen to buy it back....

It's sporting alot of mods. The spec is something like the following:

Engine:
1.8 ZVH
Stage 3 head and a Piper 285T camshaft on a vernier pulley
CR Turbos Hybrid T3 (Stage 2.5)
Pace Chargecooler system
MFII 5th injector system with a dedicated high impedance injector
Alloy header tank S1 spec
Bailey breather system
Samco hoses throughout with stainless clips

Drivetrain and suspension
Late BC5 with LSD
Helix 4 paddle clutch (Jesus, that clutch is horrific!)
Stock wheels with Nankang NS-2R tyres all round
Fully polybushed
Leda coilovers all round

Interior:
Slowly but surely being returned back to stock.

With a stock interior, a normal(ish) clutch and the stock exterior bar the tyres I reckon the Escort will be a great thing indeed, almost the car a stock one could have been.

Yeah i'd have been pissed off if i'd paid for it, although Mike Brewer was handing out free boom shakes if you were willing to stand in line with the other mentally disabled people, seriously they were a weird deformed bunch that wanted to meet him.

Yeah I know. I went with work as we got free tickets, but wouldn't have paid for them otherwise. Our work cars was right next to them (Mike and Edd) Burgundy two seater, escort van and DBR1 model.

I'm in a small team that make production limited kit/sports cars. We also restore some cars for the love of cars show. I'm in the mechanical area, but try a bit of everything.

No as I'm currently not on the works insurance (but I think that's changing with the next few months as we're moving and doing a few changes, although I've driven them around the yard. They either run a LS3 (pictured) or Aston straight 6.

One for the lottery garage, whoever built that was not f*cking about, imagine how much fun it would be on a track day.

This is a very quick car...Purpose built for performance & grins.. not for comfort.

The car has been superbly engineered throughout and built without compramise from an excellent 1300 2 door shell. There is a CD with the car showing the details of the build/fabrication

Hart Power >450 bhp adjustable boost engine, Tuned & mapped by Torque Developments
Rear end is a baby Atlas LSD by Gartrac, with GP1 internals with disc brakes, 4 linked with turrets & gussetted
Front has World Cup crossmember, anti roll bar,Grp 4 Struts,Wilwood brakes.
Safety Devises roll cage, Sparco harness' and seats
Clifford alarm system
Stack gauges
Heated front screen.
Custom fabricated stainless exhaust..
The list goes on & on
There are invoices totalling over £20k with the car.
She drives and performs extremely well.. A serious bit of kit

Seeing as I went to Ford Fair a couple of weeks ago, it would be rude not to post some of the highlights:

Shameful, shameful waste.

If I had disposable to buy that Id drive it. f**k owning a car for investment. Stupid craze.
Yep certain car prices have gone full on mental, I'm waiting for the bubble to bust (probably when interest rates rise, if they ever do).

A guaranteed indication of when the car market will crash will be when I eventually buy my next car, that's if we ever stop spending on the house and holidays.

Strangely i only just found this thread. Im a massive old skool ford fan having owned a long list myself which i kick myself for selling most days
2 mk 1 escort2 doors both 2.0 pinto with twin 45's etc
Fond memorys of changing diffs and gearboxes on my back in the cold
Mk2 rs 2000 custom in black with with choc brown fishnets
2.0 s capri
3.0s capri
2.8i capri
Xr4x4
Xr4i
What a d**k i am i could be minted now if i still had all of them. I will dig out some old pictures yes actual pictures and scan them in.
Recently found out you can buy new mk2 escort shells for 7 grand so thats what im saving for now and a shiny new zetec crate engine. Not sure how long that will take but will let you know when the shell is ordered.
And something more up to date i am drooling over lately, Ford still make awesome motors flat plane crank 8200rpm 525 bhp na goodness
The want is strong, wonder if they will ever bring the 350r over here.

One of my biggest regrets was selling my mk1 escort for £300! And it was solid.
We also built a mk1 escort with a 2lt twin cam slant four out of a jensen Healey and sold it for a grand! 😢
