VPN = can't connect to internet??

Wonder if there's any computer geeks among us to help me out!

It seems like a simple problem but for my life I can't actually google this one and it's doing my nut in!

I run a premium VPN, Cyberghost.

My routine is;
Start up computer, run VPN, start up Firefox...

Firefox times out!
Google chrome times out!
IE times out!

I disconnect the VPN and run "naked" and all is fine!?

What's making the VPN not connect to my interwebs? It's only a recent problem, been fine before. I'm not totally stupid so I've checked all the basic settings I can see and I'm still head scratching.

Any thoughts?
Running windows 10.

Depends on vpn connection, we don't allow split tunnelling at work so can't access local Internet whilst vpn to site is active

Doesn't explain why your's used to work though unless it have changed something and not told you.

Sometimes my VPN gets the DNS confused (think it tries to query the wrong IP) so I just set it back to default (e.g. Google 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) and that often sorts it.
