West Mids build Sandcastles 2013

Hi all,

Thinking of doing something a bit different this summer. My suggestion is as follows:

Choose a meeting point and plan a route (with decent driving roads) to the beach (e.g maybe Porthmadog, to be decided/suggestions please)

Do this on a Saturday, Day at the beach, usual banter will follow. Then for those that want we can stay at a local campsite on Saturday night, few beers and of course a BBQ. The next day we can stay as late as people want and then make our way back on a similar route together?

What do people think about this, who's up for it?

I'm going to propose dates of either Sat 6th-Sun 7th July or Sat 3rd-Sun 4th August.

If the response is good then we can open it up to other regions ie the Welsh or North West lot.

What I need to know from you is if you're interested (put your name on the list), which weekend you'd prefer and finally if you'd just come for the day or camp over?

Not a bad idea at all Tom, Air show looks great. However it's been a while since I've been to Rhyl though and the memories weren't great lol.
Definitely another idea. Which idea suits you mate?

Either day for me preferably August though as it'll be after holiday :)
Deffo up for camping too it'll be a right laugh.
And I'd say Porthmadog would be good shout. Some simple campsites nearby which don't mind 'groups of youths' iirc

So far as suggestions go we have Rhyl/Porthmadog/
I also know a campsite that would be suitable for us lot who will no doubt be noisey. It's in Fairbourne, right by the sea and only short distance from Barmouth, alternatively I guess we have Barmouth too?
Any more?

edit: Oh and Martin suggests Monaco :p

Think it's likely to be August guys and girls, I'll start looking into campsites next week and see what we can do on price and location.
Any other suggestions on location??

Camping? Isn't that what poor people do when they can't afford a hotel?

Well I suppose I could slum it for one night..........

The Dales are a great place to drive but not sure if they have too many beaches.
Rhyl tends to full of professional benefit claimants so make sure everything is locked securely and fastened to something immovable.

How about a drive through the Welsh mountains down to Carmarthen Bay and pretending we are Top Gear on Pendine Sands :race:

Great idea mate, can you still drive on Pendine Sands, thought they'd banned it a few years ago?

From the Wikipedia page for Pendine Sands
The Ministry of Defence acquired Pendine Sands during the Second World War and used it as a firing range. The beach is still owned by the Ministry of Defence; prominent signs warn of the dangers of unexploded munitions  and public access is restricted. Monday to Friday part of the beach is closed off because of MOD operations. Between 9 July 2004 and May 2010 all vehicles were banned from using Pendine owing to safety concerns, but since May 2010 cars have again been allowed access.

This the BBC report on the beach being opened to cars again.
