Mine are way worse than that. I'm not going to bother bringing them back to life...I'm not that fussed really, although at some point I'll no doubt buy a couple of new ones to keep in reserve.
Think your car is newer than mine too? That makes me feel better!

I've looked into replacement ones but for less money I could get someone to respray them and then ceramic coat them. Such a design flaw but no cars perfect I suppose!

March 17 mine was built/registered.

They're so bad as I didn't hand wash the car from October time until a couple of weekends ago :ROFLMAO: What's on them now is part of the metalwork.

Mine will never look right...when they replaced my backbox they've somehow got it so that the left tailpipe sticks out about 20mm more than the right; I never spotted this for weeks/months after they did the work.

I can pull the right trim out to make it look sort of the same, but drive a few miles and it ends up working its way back in...and when it's pulled out you can also see the short cut tailpipe end inside the trim.

C'est la vie.

Oh. Well ours are very similarly aged then! Mines July reg I think!

Well theres your problem then Mark! I've known people to wipe them after every single drive. Bit much for me but each to their own. As you say, C'est la vie!

That backbox butchery sounds pretty awful. If it makes you feel any better (it wont), I've never spotted it in any of your videos!

Claying and iron removal only needs to be done every six months really.

If you’ve done those steps properly you should be able to just wash the car and give it a quick machine polish without any issues.
Claying should be done as when needed, ideally shouldn’t be done every 6 months. If you’ve clayed for the first time 6 ish months ago and you want to clay the car again now, who’s to say the paint is contaminated free, and your claying the car again pointlessly.
A really good way is knowing you should be claying is put hour hand inside say a shopping carrier bag and rub your hand over the paintwork , if it feels like sand paper then it needs claying if it doesn’t it doesn’t need claying. By claying your car your putting more fine marks / scratches on your paint

@MarkCup and @Sidnancy common issue with the standard m140i tailpipes, the finish just goes even with regular cleaning. Think I've read on the babybmw forums that some have successfully resprayed them with barbecue paint!

And I'm one of those people who wipes them after a drive.. ;)

This is after 11k miles, not too bad!

Those are clean as a whistle! I've found some Mickey mouse ones on ebay (the goofy ones are all out of stock) so I'll see how I go. Tempted to polish mine up and if I dont like them, repaint them. Cheers for the suggestion. This is fast turning into a bmw page 😂

When I got my car home for the first time a few weeks back I took a quick check underneath. Thought it might have lived on a farm in a previous life as there was loads of mud underneath. This absolute chunk just fell onto my feed while machine polishing. Must have been in the arch liner somewhere. I wouldnt mind but I took all the wheels off and blasted the liners just last week. Where the hell is it all coming from 😂

I know this may be a loose question, but what pads are people using? I've been using 3M flat for cutting (With Menzerna 400) Rupes yellow (With Sonax Perfect finish) and i think Chemical guys hex logic blue with my poorboys polish. The green and yellow are looking a little tired so i may do some ordering as im out of my Sonax too.

Will be going on RB if that helps.

3m green with 400! Is that what cuts the RB? I can't think of anything harsher this side of microfibre/denim discs. f**k me!

I'd still like to try these.. Not sure how to clean mf pads though, do they go in the pad washer like foam pads?

I didn't have a great day today, washed the front end getting it ready to put the bumper back on but noticed insane marring on the bonnet, could see exactly where and how I'd wiped. Polished it again, wiped, marring again, ahhh..

Started all over again, brand new claybar, brand new polishing pad, brand new cloths and it was fine.

Not sure if it was contaminated cloths or just extremely soft paint (bonnet has been resprayed end of last year) so just soaked and double washed all my microfiber items.

Hope that was the problem as I can't stand having to be super ultra careful every time I just look at the car, had a black car with finicky paint like that before and it was horrible..

I've not used one. I assume a good rinse with warm water would do the trick. In sure there is fancy spray you can buy though.

I know its wrong, so I'll look into a alternative. Any recommendations as to what?
I wasn't having a go Mark. Jim at WD used to be green and fast cut plus! Just surprised that's what it took, whilst still unsurprising...

Plus it has been resprayed so you can’t just use the hard paint rule of thumb.

Edit: I’ve always liked Menz PO106, PO203, FG400 and hex logic white, green and orange as a core base for finding a workable combo.
