In recent years I’ve never really bothered with cloning drives between builds purely due to the ease of rebuilding Windows and downloading apps, although the process itself is easy it seems unnecessary these days for a boot drive.

FYI your Windows license will be associated with your Microsoft account assuming you sign in with one.

The price for non-LHR cards is off the charts at the moment because supply has dried up.

I bought a couple of 3060Ti FE cards for £700 each two months ago, they sold for £925 each last week. Just mental.

To busy building all the super cards, the 'best' choice (if we even have choices anymore) is a standard 3080 imo as it will probably hold its price better in the future assuming 40 series cards are non LHR but this isnt exactly possible in the current climate as the Ti isn't really an upgrade from a gaming point of view.

The same model @Silent_Scone is listing above I purchased on launch day from Scan for £791 lol, crazy times. My 3090 has gone up £500+ retail since I bought it as well, retarded tbh as am I for purchasing a 3090 but you know, got what I could when I could so made a split second decision as it would have been sold out shortly after!

@Silent_Scone hold out for a Super over a 3080 Ti as they are meant to have the GA103 chips... maybe..

I'm building a low end gaming PC out of bits I had spare, just for fun really, I'll probably sell it on for what it cost me when I'm done. I was missing a graphics card which is obviously the killer these days. Ended up buying a venerable GTX 690 which still more than holds it's own against things like the 1550ti and 1660. The only way to get anything decent at a sensible price seems to be to go completely left-field/old.

My main PC is a nice spec but became another project. I've watercooled the 3080 with EKWB bits, got an i7 10770k, 32Gb of HyperX RAM, something like 2 or 3Tb of SSD, and I keep looking at it and thinking "I never use the thing, and when I do it's usually to play F1 games which aren't exactly demanding, so why do I have all that value sat there doing nothing"

I've just changed jobs and they're supplying me with a 16" MBP, so other than gaming I'm covered.

Might end up selling the "good" PC and keeping the "cheap" one at this rate, or just flogging the lot and getting a console..... don't hurt me :ROFLMAO:

I feel this pain.

My PC has been out of action for three months while we redecorate the office. Finally get it all unpacked this week and set up again and my first thought was for a quick bash on Plants vs Zombies, while I have a 5800X sat there waiting to be installed...

Still might push the boat and for a quick spin around Sochi at the weekend.

I used to have dual 780 ti's back in the day, biggest mistake I ever made, loads of extra hassle for not alot of extra gain imo, never again, not that SLI is really a thing these days anyway as 30 series cards are just so damn powerful.

I've done J apparently.

Looks like some weird UEFI / Secure boot nonsense.

Got the hardware installed fine, then Clonezilled the old SSD (SATA) to the new SSD (M2).

Old SSD boots fine if I have legacy enabled in the UEFI boot compatbility settings, new one just shows 'J'. If I disable compatibility settings neither of them boot.

In the meantime I've just installed Win10 fresh on the M2 drive with everything set to full UEFI / no compability and that's working fine. As I can effectively dual boot I haven't lost anything so settings are easy enough to port over.

License is a bigger issue though as I don't seem to be able to extract my old product key from the original install. When I:

wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey

it just returns:
OA3xOriginalProductKey

which Google suggests means I have a 'digital license'. Don't really understand that as it was originally a physical Win7 retail license that was upgraded to Win10.

Turn off secure boot, waste of time. Did you try and change all the boot options in BIOS?

I would suggest dd but you've managed to f**k up a Clonezilla copy 👀 😂

I like the case. I need one with dedicated drive bays. I have 4 SSD's in my tower and there are no proper mounting points which f***s me off to no end!

Tbh components these days are pretty robust, you can get it wrong but still be okay... Unless you start volleying your cpu pins 😂

Quite frankly though, I'm amazed my only issues are software. It's been a decade since I last replaced a CPU / MB and I was convinced I'd crack an IHS, put the fans back the wrong way around, etc. etc.

Pretty pleased with how easily it's all gone back together:

And if you're ever worried about breaking a computer while assembling it, I successfully de-lidded my 4790k while pissed one evening so it's got to be fairly hard to f**k something up 😂

Obsidian 550D, love it.

Decent soundproofing throughout, good access for installation and easy for a lazy pleb like me to keep the cables tidied around the back. Obviously don't ever open up the panel that exposes the back of the motherboard:

Lol, nice!

Been using Noctuas for at least 15 years now and don't see the need to change brand. This set are 9 years old and still whisper quiet while keeping everything cool.

Been using Noctuas for at least 15 years now and don't see the need to change brand. This set are 9 years old and still whisper quiet while keeping everything cool.

Any PC build is the same, mine is reasonably clean but the cables just don't have anywhere to go and f**k making custom length stuff🤣

In for a penny... I've been on the EVGA waiting list for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra jobbie since day one and can't get one for love or money. Hence sod it, decided to jump in and I genuinely could do with the additional CUDA horsepower for my work / research. Gaming prowess is a bonus of course!

Thought that was a typo at first! Would have been a much better card if they had managed to allow a single GPU to access the 4GB of memory, rather than the 2x2GB for each GPU.

Still, that card and its twin allowed me to nab one of my rarest Steam achievements, I reckon? :)
