Another update to make of more diy work on the car, and another problem during the work...

First of all, the exhaust needed attention. All of the rubbers had perished causing it to rattle and start to melt the exhaust trims. I also wanted the decat off because im getting old and the droning noise is no longer cool to my ears.

I went back to AAS who have replaced all mounts, welded a small crack on the original cat from when it was on coilovers and scraped along the floor, and re fitted for me with a new genuine fitting kit.

Next up was 4 brand new genuine injectors and fuel rail. Mine were swapped ages ago when diagnosing a missfire, which didnt turn out to be the injectors but i was left with a 2nd hand old set. I was also told at a later date when it was plugged in that there was a slight missfire onnone of them so they have been on the list to change for a while now.

When starting the car, the fuel line popped off and sprayed petrol everywhere! I realised one of the o-ring seals had snapped!
I managed to find a pack of seals in screwfix and one of them was the same size. Job done, car running again.

I need to replace the fuel rail gaurd which i now have ready to go on.

I also need the engine mounts replacing as the exhaust place said there was more movement than there should be and i could do with replacing them.

Good to see your still at it...I started my project thread about the same time as you, and now it's quite a few years on!
Interesting that you had similar problems to what I have encountered during the time line.
Your car still looks great and glad to see it's being maintained as it should.
Are you going to replace the fuel rail guard? It's a good idea to, it's there for a purpose, oh, and are those O rings nitrile, cos if not ,they'll deteriorate with a consequence..
Incidentally, where did you get the injectors from, something I must do soon -price keeps on going up on the genuine ones and there's a lot of cheap copies around.

Thanks mate.

Yes, they are nitrile, although i had no idea what that meant so good to know they are the right type.

Yes I have the fuel rail gaurd and new nuts ready to go on.

Injectors where just under £32 each as I rang euro car parts and asked if they would price match. When i went for them they tried to pit vat on too but i said it was agreed via phone they would be £32 all in. The rail itself was from Renault though, at £35.

You must have got them on a Black Friday? -just checked on the website and £65 inc vat, with discount still rounds out to £45, but that's a reasonable price for the genuine part, which they will be from ECP.

nline they were coming in at £45ish but i just rang my local place direct and asked them to price match. They can obviously do it so worth a go with your local place.

£648 garage bill....

I have been using the 182 as a daily for a couple of months now since selling my qashqai and still not having a replacement for it yet. Desperate to find something asap so i can keep the miles off the 182.

There has been a list of jobs building up for a while now so i booked it in the garage to get sorted.

My rear brakes were an advisory on the mot and they dont seem to be working at all. The ABS and service light have came on the dash, along with the engine management intermittently.
2 days before it was due in the garage i noticed one of the rear dics had a crack straight through it! So i knew it would need at least 2 new discs and had a feeling there was a calliper issue causing this.

The garage confirmed this so have replaced the following at a cost of £648!
2 new rear callipers
New rear discs and pads
Lambda sensor
Abs speed sensor on one front wheel

There are also other faults which need fixing but the garage rang and asked if i wanted then to contine with the other bits when the bill hit £650.

So i now have the following to still get sorted;
Knock sensor (can do this myself)
Front abs ring is cracked but the garage also suspect the driveshaft needs replacing as there is a loud tick on full lock.
Brake pedal sensor.

It is 15 year old so i know larger bills are expected at some point. Will hopefully have something new soon but we have a wedding to pay for next year which is taking priority.

£648 sounds a bit steep.

Lambda £60
Front ABS sensor £30
Rear discs £100 if genuine Renault
Rear pads £30 if Renault
Rear calipers £100 per side at most

£420 ish, so that makes it £230 ish labour.

How much time do you think it would take to replace it all?
I do agree with you that it probably isnt the cheapest, but i know that before going to this same garage that i always use. Profesional set up, garage is really clean and organised, the owner is friendly and profesional. No back street foul mouthed cash in hand type place. Not that theres anything necesarily wrong with that as long as the work on the car is thorough but i trust my cars with this garage.

Lambda would take about 10 mins
ABS sensor probably 30 mins
Rear discs and calipers probably and hour including bleeding them.

Say 2-3 hours max.

Opened my thread to post and realise its been a whole year since I last updated this thread!

The 182 remains insured and taxed but not used daily. It went straight through the last MOT without any advisories on 21-09-2019 with 89318 miles on the clock. Since then it has only covered around 100 miles.

I took it to work today (50 mile) so I could service it when I got in this afternoon. It was last serviced in November 2018 so just over a year ago. I don't like going over 12 months in between services No matter how low miles it has done. Never mind, its done now and I will make January the annual month for service.

As usual, Fuchs pro s 5 40 used with genuine filters. I also put the replacement fuel rail guard on which I have had fo ages since I had to drill the last one apart to get the stuck nut off.

The whole car needs a proper clean. We have moved house and I am lucky to have my dream double garage which is where the 182 is now kept.

I got the clio out the garage today to clean the engine bay, door and boot shuts which have been on my list to do for a while as they were really dusty from some construction work in our old street. I also took the bonnet catch apart and fixed that as it had seized meaning the bonnet wouldn't shut.

While I was on I gave the exhaust a clean and polish which hadn't been cleaned for a long time.

Having a garage is a real luxury and your car is protected so much more which is a great feeling. Something I have dreamt of for the last 12 years I have owned the 182. The car itself needs a clean but still looks great just because of it being kept in the garage since it was last washed over a month ago.

Also got all of my spare wheels up on the wall with some custom floating brackets I had welded up.

Garage looks lovely and nice size! Take it the wheels bolt onto the brackets.

Love a BG 182 too.

Thanks mate, its a beauty indeed and loads of space. Looking forward to getting the machine polisher out in it.

Yes thats right, wheel slots on through one of the bolt holes and they were threaded so I can put a nut on the end for extra safety to make sure they don't slide off lol.

Thanks Greeny, had it such a long time now and will never sell it.

Brackets were made for me by a family member. I did ask how much he would charge if he made some sets up to sell and he would be looking at £100 ish for time and materials. Obviously a lot of money for some brackets but if anyone was interested I could supply them.

Cheers mate, hope you’re keeping well.

Go for it mate they are brilliant. I had always wanted my spare alloys up on the wall but could never find anything on the internet available. They look cool while also serving a purpose as it leaves the floor area clear to utilise. Its a win win scenario lol.

Just realised I first posted in this thread when you first started it back in 2011, time flys. Really jealous of this tbh, as much as I love my track car which sits in the garage doing sweet fa most of its life, which I won’t be getting rid of either, it would be great to have a mint Clio to cherish, its funny looking back through this thread to see how much your cars changed over the years and as you’ve erm ‘matured’ ;)

Time really does fly mate thats very true.

I love looking back through this thread myself. I will read from the start every now and then. Sometimes cringe at my old posts lol but as you say, thats what getting older does to you haha.

I admit I love still having it and knowing I have owned it since 2008. I always said when I bought it i never wanted to ever sell it and one day would love to have it garaged away etc.

Thanks for the message, I will be looking into this set up as it keeps the faces clear and obstacle free - mine are all stacked up on each other :)

top garage setup Austin, proper jealous here! also those wheel holders look ace too... how many bloody wheels do you need ?!

Thanks Mazz, lol the 182 cup wheels are the standard wheels from my car and the other set are genuine trophy Turin's which I have had for about 8-9 years now.

The 182 wheels currently on my car I only paid £150 for a few years back and all had brand new tyres so it made sense as my standard 182 wheels at the time needed 4 tyres anyway.

After wanting to remove the side skirts for a long time now I decided today was the day. The sills have annoyingly been squashed like most clios and started to go rusty. I will straighten them as much as I can and might look into some rust prevention, but will need to read up as have no idea where to start.

I removed the drivers side first and decided To take the front arch liner out while I was on after seeing recent threads on here and there being a lot of dirt piled up behind them. No surprise mine were exactly the same....

I have took the side skirt off the passenger side and need to do the same with the wheel arch. The passenger side sill has quite a bit of rust which has been visible for a while now, just where the renaultsport plate sits. I think this will need to be dealt with by a body shop at some point.

Rivets were drilled out which was easy! Screws in the wheel arch also needed to be drilled out which was a pain of a job to do! New m6 flanged bolts ordered along with arch liner clips as they were damaged removing them.

Passenger side sill is worse and a big bit of rust that is going to need sorting properly. I will get a price at some point for it all but for now at least its all cleaned and the pile of dirt is removed. It will remain In the garage and only come out in the dry so hopefully that should prevent things getting worse.

Has it had side impact or been a cut and shut?!

Never seen a Clio rust there before

Not as far as I'm aware mate and I have owned it for 12 years now lol. Water used to sit at that point when it had rained and I wonder if thats got in the side skirt and rotted away

following the mot last month the front spring snapped so i decided to change the dampers also as the current dampers are the originals from new. I replaced the front dampers, top hats, gaiters, bolts and top mounts. Renault no longer make the cup springs so i went for the eibach pro lines as I read they are closest to standard height which is what i wanted to retain.

the clio covered just 300 miles over the last year between mot’s. It is taxed and insured all year round and gets a drive out every week or so to keep everything running.

Belts are due even though it has only covered 8k since they were last done. I will book it in with diamond motors next year.
