I know they’re s**t now , but I don’t really want to throw £100 away after I’ve used it 5 times just because it leaks

Think you've already thrown your money away.

If it's only been used a handful of times and is already pissing oil out a fresh set of seals isn't likely to fix your problems.

I bought a Halfords low 2 tonne profile trolley jack a few weeks ago. I've used it a few times and I'm really happy with it. I can get the car very high and get under it alot easier now than with my old knackered trolley Jack's I've had about 20 years lol.
Only £86 with my £20 Confused.com voucher and halfords trade card 😊

How can I get a Halfords trade card, I'm self employed if that helps?

Need to work in the motor trade according to the rules but I've seen people be fairly loose with it.

This is my one. £104 inc vat with trade card.

I made a fake wage slip and told them I was a HGV mechanic lol. The guy on the desk asked if I had a wage slip, I gave it to him and he only briefly looked at it 😜
I guess they're pretty slack and don't really check your credentials lol.

Hmm, I have a halfords account set up from when I tried online but don't seen to be able to find my 17 digit trade account number. Half way there.

That's the one I bought. It was 84 quid with my trade card and Confused.com voucher.
It's a good bit of kit. Heavy if you have to pick it up but moves easily on the wheels.

Have 10% off at halfords courtesy of the AA. Just have them scan the barcode at checkout. 👍

My sgs jack still works as of last week. That was only the second time I've used it though and it's only 6 months old. Hopefully it'll still work when I need to lower my car off the axle stands.

My SGS still works but does slowly drop if I'm using it for quick jobs like changing a wheel etc. It's meant to be low access but not low enough for Grams springs

My sgs one is knackered already , used it about 10 times ! Absolute crap !

Unfortunately they're Chinese shite 😏

I've had their 3 ton one for years and it's been solid, but recently it has started creaking now and again.

I got the cheap halfords one for £30 in the discount section. Its really low and seems very sturdy. Doesn't look fancy and it's a bit heavy but it does the job

I've been warning people off their shitty jacks for years, it's not a recent thing, they've been like that at least 7-8 years.

Unfortunately flashy website and cheap prices still lure 'em in. They're complete crap. And if you want to buy a reseal kit to fix it yourself because they can't manage it themselves under warranty (because frankly they don't have a clue bar topping the oil up, they're just box shifters) it's almost as much as just buying a new jack.

I could probably make a living out of repairing leaking and sinking SGS jacks with the amount I've seen now.

Im looking at a new jack right now. I need it to be able to lift a range rover sport, only one corner at a time realisticly. Been looking at the 3 tonne halfords advanced one, but the weight of it puts me off a tad as id have to carry it a fair distance to use it
Any better recommendations for around the same price as that halfauds one with trade card ?
Is the 3 tonne version a bit overkill or is it better to be safe than sorry

I have to the 2 tonne Halfords advanced trolley jack. Its heavy but not too heavy if you need to carry it. It moves about on the wheels very easily so would assume the 3 tonne version moves the same.
Best trolley jack I've ever had and I've had a few over the years.

So just to add to the “SGS jacks are sh*t” numbers; my 3 tonne low profile Jack hasn’t lasted 4 years and it’s decided to give up the ghost. Therefore, Halfords it is this time round…

My SGS jack is a pile of shite too and drops pretty quickly. Going to get mys of one of those Halfords ones.
They've shot up in price for some reason. The 2 tonne one is now £165 😮 it was only £130 a few months ago when I bought one. But I have a trade card and had a £20 voucher so it only cost me £84.
If you haven't got a trade card, which are pretty easy to get, try and find someone you know who has.
They're well worth the money.

I think I will go for the 2 tonne halfords one, it's all I will ever need weight wise, but I will need something low entry once I drop the golf a little

Soooo still haven't bought a jack, but ideally could do with one, a low entry one. I nearly bought one in Halfords this week, but because they didn't sell the swan neck 21mm spanner I needed, I totally forgot and wandered out. Bellend.

Is this Clarke one any better

or is the Halfords one still decent?

I have 2 of these cheap Halfords jacks. Had em for years and they're a bit knackered now. They only lift the car 37.5cm. The one @McGherkin linked to is night and day between the one you linked. Plus it lifts up to 50 cm which makes it hell of a lot easier to get under the car.

Get the Halfords Advanced one. 2 secs

That's a fair chunk more expensive.

Over a foot height is more than enough though, no?

I've got that exact halfords jack and it's had a lot of use. I think it's great value, it's pretty robust, plus small and light enough to take to a track day. There are plenty of rubber pads that fit the cup.
My only issues with it are that it doesn't lift that high, and it also moves the car in an arc, espcially at the top of it's movement range, which means you need to be careful when putting the car on four stands.

It's shot up hell of a lot since I bought mine last year. 😮Then it was only £130. Plus I had a 20 quid voucher and a trade card so I only paid about £85.
It makes a massive difference, to me anyway, being able to lift it another 13cm. I could only just squeeze under the car now I've lots more room.
It's a good bit of kit. It should last years.

Draper one here lifts to nigh on 50cm and is £35 cheaper than the Halfords
Looks identical to the sealey one I just got.

Comparison on size against the smaller low entry sgs one.

I love it and really wish I'd got it sooner. The weight of it doesn't show at all as I drag slash roll it around the garage and never have to lift it.

Dont be fooled by the quick lift videos you see, it raises up to full height in 5 pumps but only when there's no load on it not when the car is there if you get me.

It's very useful though for locating where you're wanting to jack quickly.

Paid £130 for this.

I deliberated for months on which to get (literally months) and so happy with this.

I’ve got one of these big b******s. It creeps a little, probs needs bleeding or something but I’ve had it for about 7-8 years now.

Go big or go home I say, it’ll pay for itself in the long run!

I sold my Arcan XL30r jack last year as it was just too heavy and because there is a gravel drive between my garage and where I work on cars it did my back in moving it around.

I was looking at jacks in Halfords today as I need to replace it, currently rocking my dad's old cheapo halfords effort, which struggles on both height and reach

The one everyone on here is recommending didn't feel as heavy as I remember the Arcan feeling but they never do in the box! I don't want to buy it and have the same issue as the Arcan though

I've also seen the new aluminium one, but the box looked a fair bit smaller, anyone got one? Mostly concerned on the reach of it, both have similar min/max height.

Or any other nice low entry, long reach, aluminium jacks people recommend?

Have a look at the 1.2 tone aluminum one made by Clarke I think.

It's something ridiculous like 10kg. That may be more suitable?

Jacks are a weird one, everyone wants light, long reach, high lift capacity but you're limited by physics.
