im due an upgrade right now, ive been with EE for many years. but they are s**t where i live, i cant hear anyone on a call, so im thinking of going elsewhere. the other half is with o2 and can talk to people on the phone fine.

ive currently got an xperia 1 iii, paying £64 a month.

ive always had the latest and best, but am thinking of reducing my monthly bill and getting a less spec phone. this is a first for me :(

any recommendations?

I mean The Verge say the best phone right now is the iPhone 13, due to the deals you can get and it's not much worse than the 14.

However if you want to stick with Android... Pixel or OnePlus?

Alternatively, if the reason is to drop your monthlies, can you buy the phone outright and go SIM only? That's what I did. Currently iPhone 14 Pro paying £10 p/m

Same here, EE/BT tell me signal is good where I live but according to MSE & USwitch it’s crap!

In fact 3 have 5g mast in village & supposedly super quick but what’s 3 like elsewhere?

Daughters on Sky (02) & again seems fine.

I’m undecided, got max pack with BT sport & Mrs has account piggy backing mine but after the April rises paying over in excess of 100+

Due upgrade but considering dropping & going sim only, but will lose lots of perks & been with them since orange days 🤦‍♂️

not sure there much difference between my xperia 1 iii and the latest phones out, ive also been considering sim only. whilst id love a folding phone, i cant justify the money, got better things to spend it on.

im considering pay as you go...

Haven’t you got Wi-Fi calling? Doesn’t that improve things?

Awaiting del of mine today
Another great deal from three, unlimited everything, £917 after trade in for the 512gb s23u.

A better deal than mine but I can't be bothered getting a refund, £1400 worth of argos vouchers and nothing to spend them on

Got that on but don’t make much difference, like I mentioned the signal is trash in my vilage.
Got 5g everything & gigabyte connection across campus at work which really shows up how rubbish 70 Meg at home is 🤷‍♂️

Weird. I can have zero signal, but still get a crystal clear call when I’m on the Wi-Fi.

Anyone fitted a tempered glass screen protector to S23 ULTRA and what type been looking at spigen and whitestone?

S23 ultra, Fold 4 (the big one) or a Pixel fold?

I really like the idea of Samsung Dex and had a play with a folding Samsung recently Fold 3 maybe and could see me using it for web browsing and reading... perhaps, but I typically keep phones for 3 years and I'm not convinced the Pixel fold or Samsung would survive that long...

Have you picked up a Fold? It's quite chunky but a nice idea, it's amazing the screen when opened up.

I like me S23 Ultra, oddly enough I use my Stylus more on the Samsung tablet than the phone.

Ive had a play with a Samsung fold but not the pixel. I like the idea of the S23 with the stylus but not sure how much I would really use it, plus the S23 looks huge! Camera looks mega though.

I use the stylus way more than I ever thought I would on my S23. Even just for browsing s**t online, it's a nice change to constantly scrolling with your thumb.

It is a huge phone make no mistake about that but you get used to it fairly quickly.

Also if Dex is something you'd actually use then I'd seriously consider the S23. When I was buying my house and was constantly sending emails back and forth it was fantastic to be able to just hook it up to my work monitor, mouse and keyboard and use it like a computer on my lunch break or whatever, rather than sit typing emails on the phone.

Don't forget Samsung also promise 4 generations of OS updates and 5 years security update support now for the longevity side. Battery replacements are cheap too on most phones if you're worried about that over 3 years.

Does anyone have a Samsung Flip or any current flip phone? I was looking at the new RAZR 40 Ultra which looks pretty decent.

I held an s23 ultra the other day. I don’t personally feel the need for a phone so big it wouldn’t fit in some of my pockets 😂.

But the screens good, it felt really quick as well.

The zoom is impressive. Frustrating that it’s a bit laggy taking pics. More difficult taking pics of your own kids than someone else’s a mile away. Maybe it’s the Schofield edition?

not sure there is anything at all to be had from buying a phone sim free from a manufacturer.

£10 a month pay as you go simcard - so £120 a year

z fold 4 = £1650
so over 2 months thats £69 a month
then add the simcard in
1650 + 240 = 1890
1890 by 24 months = £79 a month

o2 web site are doing the z fold 4 for £87 a month, with £30 up front with 25gb of data

tiny saving

I have always bought direct from google tbh and just paid the money. Keeping for 3+ years makes them really quite cheap given its the most used piece of tech I own, plus when you come to buy a new phone they are genuinely an upgrade where as the yearly next generation tech improvement is getting smaller each year.

My Pixel 4 for example still take good enough pictures largely due to software and its still in support I believe until sometime this year so apps etc all still work despite it being 3-4 generations behind.

That's a 3 year contract though.

2 years is this.

i know, i said £87
So you did 😂

I'd just seen your 24 months in your sums.

Also, it's £8pm more so £192 over 2 years, plus the £30 plus whatever they add for inflation (which you obviously wouldn't get with buying outright)

In the last 2 years my o2 sim only contract has gone from 17 to £27pm.
