I didn’t. I went to the guy I normally use, didn’t want to risk taking it further afield with how bad the noise was. He’s not a specialist but he has all the tools and knowledge and whatnot. And guaranteed work so if worst comes to worst I have some come back.
The oil was low when I checked it. But it was such a bad noise I had it changed just in case
Renault then decided to say 6 years.
197s are 5 year/75k. 200s/meg 250s are 6 year/can’t remember mileage.
Don’t see how. Same engine, same parts, why is there a year between them?
Had my 197 second belt service due in September on age not mileage. Personal circumstances saw that put on the back burner.
Last week (belts about a month over due) I got a horrid ticking noise that pointed towards the dephaser getting ready to die.
Car booked in ASAP and belts, dephaser...
I’m guessing the use of the material will be down to weight, and not using it will be down to strength and softness of the aluminium.
Will wait for someone who knows what they’re talking about to confirm though.
So, little update.
Had the belts, water pump, dephaser pulley, crankshaft pulley, oil, coolant and a puncture repair over the past couple of days. So the car should be happy for another five years now.

Cost about £20 all in. Works perfect for streaming but doesn’t support calls. And it’s all hidden away so no garish leads or head units
