Your plans sound good. A good clean and paint and some essential maintenance is all it'll need. I'm same. Not a fan of 172 wheels. Prefer 182s. But prefer F1s to both!

Mine scrubbed, so switched to 195 tyres rather than 205s and solved scrubbing for me.
