Is all the brown stuff that thick sound deadening material ?
I took as much out as I could from up under the footwells in the race car, but didn't realise there was so much of it!
Same thing happened to me in a race a couple of weeks ago.
Although I haven't done it yet my solution will be to ditch the power steering completely, just need to decide whether to get a manual quick rack, or just plug the PAS rack and use a delete kit to remove the pump.
Mine is a 182, I guess...
Hi Zach, sorry for the delay in replying. I'm a bit overstocked for tyres now, and am running out of space, but many thanks for the offer.
I bought 4 new federal 595 RS-R Pro in 205 45 16, they are for next year and were at a good price.
I also have 3-part worn 595 RS-R old pattern to kill off...
Many thanks for the replies, I think I will be getting the PMS delete and blank/loop kit, and a 350mm wheel and see how that goes. Definitely the cheapest option to start with, then if I still find I'm too puny I'll have to think about electric assistance.
Oddly enough the weight loss will...
Very interested to know what you have done, ie have you retained the original rack, blanked it off and removed the pump, or is there more to it.
Also might sound a daft question, but what diameter steering wheel do you have fitted?
Reason for asking is my PAS effectively deleted itself today...
Many thanks George, great service, particularly as it was the weekend, much appreciated it will give me a chance to fit the discs and check the camber, and then fit shims as necessary before Saturday's race.
I'll certainly be telling the garage that fitted the last set of discs, as they...
Thanks George, you definitely live up the recommendations.
I just had a chance to look at the NSR and that bearing's gone as well, and guess what, no washer to be found!
Without the forum and previous 'how to' threads I wouldn't have known the washer existed, would have fitted new discs just...
just as well I decided to fit the shims, as in the process I found the offside wheel bearing is shot, and the thrust washer is missing, which is probably why the bearing is shot, and in fact is probably why the I went to fit the shims in the first place as the OSR camber read positive on the...
Many thanks Zach, I got the shims and a set of new bolts from pure motorsport so should be all set.
Not taken the stub axles off before so will follow your advice and prepare for a good clean up
That's a good thought, I'll have a good measure up at the weekend and e-mail Ceika.
They are a bit odd in that they sell all this performance stuff but were reluctant to sell me race compound pads! I guess they've have loads of 'road racers' buy race pads and then complain that the discs don't...
Many thanks both for the above advice.
I'm not sure I have the option to go to 15s due to the 6-pot caliper's, but would have to see if there are any wheels that work.
You're right @ZachB I don't think I'd want a taller tyre or increased diameter, and r888s would be good but in 16" would have to...
A couple of videos from yesterday's 30 min pit stop race.
The best fun I've had in the Clio so far, close and fair racing all the way, and proving to me that whether its 170bhp or 470bhp close racing is what make it worthwhile.
I'm still getting to grips with the FWD, keeping the foot in when...
About time I updated the list of upgrades since buying the car, before I lose track of things:
Interior and MSA compliance
Interior removed, (except upper dash to comply with TP class regs)
Roll cage Sparco 6-point bolt-in
Corbeau pro-race FIA seat and mounts
Corbeau 6-point FIA harness...
So a fair bit of time has passed and an update is due.
i went for the Gripper plated diff from Mark @NorthloopCup , it was a very good price but just as important the I didn't have to take my gearbox out and send it to him, the deal was for a reconditioned box supplied with the Gripper diff...
So things have taken an expensive turn again! That's Motorsport I suppose.
Last Saturday I booked a B&B for 3 and trailered the car up to Snetterton, a pleasant two and a half hour journey.
Racing was to be on Sunday, so we got a burger in the circuit restaurant and watched F1 Monaco...
I've learnt something already today! Looks like a 130 is the OEM JC5 130
I read something about this not being what's fitted in a Cup?
My car is a 182, no mention of Cup on the car or any paperwork, but it did have Cup suspension fitted, identified by the spacing on the connection to the hub...
I'm only a basic spannerer I'm afraid, and the closest I've come to the gearbox is changing a clutch, and oil re-fill etc.
Given decent instructions I am tempted to go for the gripper and learn how to alter the set-up, which could be useful for different tracks in future.
Many thanks for the reply, Very interested and I will send a pm.
I'm so new to Clios that I'm not sure what a 130 gearbox is, but am happy to take your advice.
Thanks for the reply
Looking at the Gripper website they will set it up for your preferred application, and if you are not happy they include a second set up as long as you return it within 30 days. Seems like the way to go. Just have to get the gearbox back in and out on track pretty quick!
A question often asked and answered on here I'm sure, but my thread search didn't come up with much.
For a circuit race car I'm pretty sure the answer is plated, and Gripper seems to be the most popular for Clios, but I would be really interested in opinions from those of you with race and...
Great project @ZachB , really impressed with the way you are designing and fabricating as much as you can yourself, it's so much more satisfying when it works, and if it doesn't you can always tweek the design!
Love the door cards. I can't lose any more weight for my class at the moment, but I...
Quite serious spring rates there Zach, my brain can't recognise lb/inch for some reason, but I reckon that's about 9kg/mm front and 11kg/mm rear.
Are the rears coilovers, or are the springs separate and inboard of the damper like the OEM set up?
Whatever, that's a pretty firm rear spring, I'm...
Same colour axle stands and everything!
So those are 4 pots, what sort of compound pad do you use, and how do you find the set up?
What seems to be the common theme is that if you improve front braking but have soft suspension (in compression at least), and/or have lowered the car, the front...
