I've been focusing my efforts on getting the engine bay ready for this weekend, which is when the M20 will hopefully find its new home.
I wanted a fresh OEM sound deadening section, but BMW don't supply them anymore and nobody in the UK was holding any stock, so I resorted to buying some engine...
Right, I wanted to replace the sound deadening on the firewall on the E21.
Unfortunately, since removing it (it got pretty destroyed in the process) they're now no longer available from BMW. There are no BMW dealers holding stock in the UK either.
So, I was considering aftermarket options...
What controls it though? Can it be wired up to the standard E30 radiator fan temperature switch, or do I need to install an aftermarket inline one?
Yeah the M20 has a viscous fan as standard, and so did the M10, so the wiring/fuses etc should all be there.
Okay, so this isn't for a Clio, it's for the E21.
I think I'm going to need an electric fan setup, as the engine swap doesn't leave suffice room to fit the engine driven fan.
Does anyone know of any decent brands? Can someone run through what parts I need, and how it all wires up? I can't seem...
Topgear are decent, Jon had a bit of work done by them and they seem excellent.
As you say, some matt black VHT paint will see you right. Leave the tips though, right?
Woah, don't tarnish me with the rattle can brush! It'll be getting done by a guy who does mobile paint repairs. Granted it'll be no spray booth quality but it'll be better than an aerosol job.
Got a load done today,
New fuel pump and fuel level sender fitted:
Did some work on the engine too.
New inlet manifold gaskets:
Inlet manifold fitted, and BMW logo and details sanded up:
Accessory belt fitted, with PAS pump deleted:
All the surface rust cleaned up in the engine...
Was a cracking meet, really chuffed I made the effort and got out of bed. Some cracking cars and a really good vibe to the meet too.
Using the name "Eleanor". Vile, truly... Vile.
