ebay sell the ngk plugs you need, as well as the bosch super 4 which is a cheaper alternative but which get frowned upon on here, although I've not had any problems with them in my 172 over the Denso ones they replaced? Might try some ngk plugs next time to see if they cure the slightly lumpy...
That figure isn't too bad is it a ph1 or ph2 172? Does it drive nicely on the road? Really that's what matters the most, how it responds on the roads... But your right not many make book figure of 160 odd bhp (172ps).
As has been said, get the fault cleared and then drive the car if it returns then do some engine bay searching and testing - but chances are something has made the light come on, and the fault is still stored in the memory.
Im looking into getting some new tyres for my ph1 172, as every tyre currently fitted is different to the next one! :( (blame the previous owner).
Anyway, I am looking at either the Yokohama Parada Spec2 tyres
Or a set of Toyo Proxes Proxys T1-R tyres
Has anyone had any experiences with...
Very similar, but these where a one piece plastic circle which clipped onto the alloy edge/tyre edge and did not require cutting etc...
But if I cannot find the ones I am after, these look quite good. Thanks for the link. :)
In a few magazines I saw an advert for some plastic (i think) coloured alloy wheel edges that could be used instead of the rim tape you can buy, however I cannot find any info or the website that sold these, can anyone help me out? Cheers. :)
I've had a bad month...
Car - £1500
Tax - £200
Rear shock absorber - £60
Headlight bulbs - £20
Engine work (pistons, cylinder head work, cambelt kit) - £1300
So the last month has cost me £2080 and that is before I've finished as I have just ordered a BMC carbon induction kit (£200), some new...
Yeah, might also be worth considering a partially blocked exhaust/catalyst was there any change in engine noise when the car stopped revving higher? Does the car idle correctly? Maybe the timing has slipped a tooth?
Drive it around, let it get warm and the oil well circulated park on the flat and leave it for a while... that should "reset" your dipstick tube for you. Failing that, I would use the measurement from the not so high dipstick reading, and check the digital oil level display as well...
Firstly check all your leads are connected properly and nothing has come loose or unplugged in the engine bay. Are there any warning lights on?
May also be a temperature issue, is the gauge working correctly? Where is it sitting when warmed up?
I had a similar problem with my 172, and it turned out to be the rear shock absorber had failed... Replaced that, and all was well again. :) Jack up the rear and push the wheel upwards towards the body, if there is resistance that shock is working correctly if it feels "loose" with less or no...
On my ph1 172 my oil light illuminates slightly when the engine is off. When driving it does not light up/flash and oil level is fine too.
Any ideas what it means or what could be causing this? Thanks.
They probably meant to write any more then 169bhp lol.
I wouldn't worry anyway, your unlikely to notice a few lost horsepower on the roads anyway and the clio is not really loved for its bhp alone - the all round package is what makes it such a great car. :)
My phase 1 172 will do 300 miles of mixed town and country road/lane driving with quite a fair bit of "spirited" driving thrown in for good measure. In car MPG readout is 29.7 MPG, and that is using Tesco 99ron unleaded.
It has recently had a full rebuild with a few goodies, and I am going upto...
Just finished the rebuild on my 172 engine, the problem piston has been replaced and the head checked as well. All fitted with new gaskets etc. Have also fitted new leads, and new plugs as well as new injectors, all of which have been re-tested and work correctly. Timing is also correct, and...
Get the best you can, regardless of price (as long as it is not ott).
I bought a ph1 which needed some work, and ended up spending a small fortune on repairing the engine and bodywork. After getting the car cheap, it has cost as much as a very good condition one would have cost in the first...
Re: Missfire on cylinder 3, new plugs, leads, coil and injector is working. Plug is b
Hate to mention it, but my 172 had a similar problem, and that turned out to be a damaged piston. I am still waiting for the car to come back from the stupidly slow garage doing the work.
It could be an...
