I'm not making my own system, I am creating a small board which appears as a bulb in the HUE system (like third party bulbs do), except it it controls LED strips that you can buy cheaply off eBay or even cheaper directly from China. For example a RGB led strip can be bought for a few quid in...
Would any of you guys be interested, what features would you like to see?
I'm tempted to just stick a node-mcu device on the board to control the led strip, this could then be flashed with an Arduino application which can control the less, this would make it far easier to allow you guys to...
I’m literally just working on a project to create hue compatible lightstrips, the HUE one’s are just ridiculously priced and I have a few reels of led strips with APA102 LED’s on, I’ll post some stuff when I have a demo. I want to make it cheap and easy to assemble so that people with basic...
I sent a massive great big email to Tim Cook regarding issues in iOS13, complete with loads of screenshots and examples of the bugs moaning that they shouldn't have made it into a release version. I also moaned about the keyboard on the 2016 TB mac and that I had a few keys that were very...
I managed to bypass the genius bar when my keyboard stopped working properly.....
I had international customer relations bending over backwards to help me funnily enough....
Never ask a software dev to spec something!
My home server, which probably gets most use as a media server (Runs Emby) has 64GiB of RAM, and 90 TiB of drives in it, 8 cores, dual 10GbE and a 6GB 1060 geforce something.....and runs......headless! The graphics card is in it (running modified...
Servos you will need PWM control, if you want to use an arduino then find a semi decent one, there are ARM based ones and you can pick up SWD debuggers for next to nothing, even segger the king of ARM debuggers sells "education" versions of the jlink for like 60 quid, I swear by the JLINK...
What do you know?
There are a load of books that vary in complexity on the theory of electronics, ones like "practical electronics for inventors" cover everything, but can be quite hard going.
Make magazine also has a number of books that are probably a better starting point, basic stuff.
I haven't done any work on the main application for a couple of weeks (partly because of working on compilation sutff, but also parly because I haven't been feeling too good), I have a few quick outstanding issues to sort to make it a lot more useful.
Currently it's hardcoded to target 1.1.1.1...
Which MUX? COM8 is generally known to be substantially lower transmit power than the other muxes and can cause issues, I can't remember if it's this year or next that the power will be increased.
Heres a screenshot from my TVheadend server, it has 9 tuners in it (one for each MUX), although...
Haven't done anything on the main application, but have been working on backend build stuff and now have a python script which can be run on each platform as part of CI, as a consequence I've generated and uploaded some test binaries:
- Windows, 64-bit (signed) installer.
- MacOS, 64-bit...
its ok i have plenty of tinfoil. :p Honestly, using my phone , google or debit card would reveal move about my habits than anything that’s on my facebook profile.
My parents profile is only used to look at facebook, in about 8 years they haven’t posted once!
Yes, that and convenience for them. Anything I try to organise has to be simple, otherwise it won't happen.
I'll see how we get on with the phone + cable + alexa, but if that doesn't work too well then I guess I will just wait until the portal tv comes back into stock.
Headphones are a no go, he's pretty deaf. I've ordered a 3.5mm cable and a stand so that he can plug it into the Alexa, hopefully he'll have plenty of volume then and be able to hear, it's not entirely ideal.
The stress I had getting him to install WhatsApp was crazy, he had a stroke 20 odd...
Obviously these are out of stock everywhere given the situation that's going on, but I hope for not too long, although I figure it's going to be quite a long time.
Desperate to get one for my parents, my dad is pretty deaf and trying to video chat him is pretty difficult as he can't hear, I'm...
Always happy for suggestions, by all means send me the code and I’ll have a play and see how I think I can incorporate it.
Pingnoo (it’s a play on words ping GNU) is written in C++, I use the Qt framework as I have many years of commercial software development experience using it. I’ve tried...
I’m too tight to pay for pingplotter, so I am writing my own version. It’s open source (GPLv3) and I’m doing some of the housekeeping activities at the moment, part of which is creating installers.
I had to release the source code early to get a free license of VMware InstallBuilder (they...
Anybody else get one? I've been using my 10.5 Pro a lot, not just as a tablet, but as an extra display for my Mac.
I have the new 12.9 inch pro arriving tomorrow, but annoying that the previous gen pencil doesn’t work with it as I had to buy the new one as well, use the pencil a lot in...
Yes.
when I ran my 2010 MBP I had a SSD in the cd tray which contained the OS and apps, the HD in the original position held the home folders, that kind of setup requires changing settings and special modifications for FileVault to work properly:
mad it stands with your setup, you’d just...
It's shite. If you want something that's decent, then get Affinify Designer, won't break the bank and is f**king awesome, as are all their apps.
I use Affinity Photo + Designer on both Mac & iPad and also Affinity Publisher on Mac, waiting paitently for a iPad version of that.
Use them for...
that’s a good price. I love my slicecharge pro, it is expensive now though, thankfully I was one of the early Kickstarter backers so got it a lot cheaper.
charges my phone, watch and AirPod pros without any issues.
ahh, yeah, it was a full tv package with multi room with 2 mini boxes. not broadband or phone though, so obviously that would bump it up.
Did you cancel or just accept an offer without cancelling? Theres no harm in cancelling as you can just cancel the cancellation if you don’t get an offer...
Just for reference, I was paying nearly 100 quid for sky, cancelled it. They've been sending me begging letters, emails and phone calls desperate to get me to come back for 37 quid a month (full package).
I'm getting rid anyway, but they'll go pretty low if you just hang out and don't accept...
iOS13 is pretty buggy, i moaned to apple about issues with safari rendering problems and got a reply from Craig Federaghi earlier this evening. Safari is absolutely doing my nut in, i’m literally force quitting it every few minutes, i’m not the only one reporting this issue.
