Another Clio 172 Cup track/race build.

Very nice, i'll be keeping an eye on this one. As has already been said, you've picked up some nice parts! Have you got driveshafts too? I'm still hoping to get my car out next year but time is flying by! Once I've cut my teeth on the sprints and hills, and depending on how I get on with the...

    Icemans Britcar Endurance project 182

Yeah, the 830 engine has a different cam cover with a hole for the sensor. It's up to you, if it comes off with just that wee grub screw then I dont see any harm removing it.

    Icemans Britcar Endurance project 182

I would say thats for a cam phase sensor. I'm not 100% sure, but would assume these cams can be used in the F4R 830 which, iirc has a cam sensor, easier for Cat to make cams that fit both, in your case it's not needed. I'm going to be using a cam phase sensor on my car so this might be quite...

Cheers for the comments guys :) TBH I never bothered to get an actual quote for having the strut tower plates CNC'd, I had a chat to my machine shop guy about it and he said that what I paid to have them cut on a waterjet was quite a bit cheaper than he could have machined them. They're...

:o cheers mate. Made some progress on the firewall for the tank. I'm conscious of keeping all this as light as possible, I know what the standard tank set up weighs so I'm using that as a marker. This set up will be a bit heavier, recon about 3-4kgs at current estimate but since it's got a...

I know it's easy to sit here and say this but dont let it grind you down, I've been through some tough times with cars over the years...

Long over due an update! Once again progress has been painfully slow of late, not helped this time home by having to got to Manchester for a 5 day plc course :dapprove: I've been picking away at various jobs. When I moved the steering column down and centralised it to the seat position I knew...

Odyssey ph1 172 pure track car. No tax discs here........

Thats good then, I didnt think you or Ashley would drop the ball on that one, but just wanted to check. When you pull the front legs together so you can get in to weld everything up, I pulled mine in with a ratchet strap, but when you come to release it, I used a couple of pry bars and blocks...

Odyssey ph1 172 pure track car. No tax discs here........

No probs, happy to help if I can. I'm away on a course just now, home tomorrow, I've got some pictures on my camera that I've been meaning to upload for a while. Adding a double UJ means you need to add a bearing to support the lower half of the column, that took a bit of head scratching...

    Lightweight 182 track/road car (Page 6+)

They were just made out of p*ss thin steel, and not much of it lol I know for a fact I wouldn't have wanted to be in a serious crash in a 205 or a Nova, owned both when I was younger. The Clio is also galvanised/zinc plated, the main reason for them being comparatively heavy is just down to...

Odyssey ph1 172 pure track car. No tax discs here........

I've missed loads of this thread, just sat and read through it all, going to be a cracking car. Cage install brings back some memories! The front X through the bulkhead will most likely just arrive as two lengths of 25mm tube, they let you cut and profile them your self. Cutting the holes takes...

BIGASH/FF-Racing X85 Clio Cup Racer Project

Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He Nice write up James. What have you done to stop the gear linkage being effected by the heat? Haven't heard of this problem before, does your exhaust run particularly close to the linkage or is there no...

Cheers man, I've not really had a proper look at the diffuser yet, so far i've just been trying to sort out the underside to allow it to be done. If possible I would like to go from the edge of the floor to the bumper in one piece, thinking the rear axle should sit high enough to allow this...

Re: James/BigAsh 182 Race Car by TDF... It doesn't get much better than this! *Pic He Sorry to hear about the gremlins James, hopefully it's nothing too serious. I've had cars in the past that have seemed intent on throwing problems at you one after the other, but don't let it get you down...

I've honestly got no idea, so much of it just depends on work commitments and when I get time to work on it. Sometimes I can get a few weeks where I make good progress then a month where virtually nothing happens. I would "like" to have it ready for next season, so ideally finished and doing...

Made some more progress on the switch panel I drew up the layout and emailed it to a company that does laser engraving, discussed a few options and they then sent samples of the various techniques and materials. Chase Racing Clio Build Blog (TinTops Entry)

Regarding the potentially sharp edges left on the inside of the doors, why not use something like this? http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/category/Trim/Edge_Trims,b.html I assume this is just a requirement of the Tintop series? As has been mentioned already there's nothing in the blue book i've seen...

Never tried welding ally, just got a DC Tig anyway so i'll be happy enough just learning that for now. I've seen some side exit exhausts get caught on kurbs etc so that was in my mind, the edge has been trimmed off the sill and welded back up so it's tucked up as high as i can get it without...

It's good if it's a mate thats doing it, I would hate to think how much it would cost if you where paying a company to Tig one of these in. I got a mate to do mine but I still gave him some beer money for doing it, took way longer than either of us first imagined, that and the fact Custom Cages...

Few more wee jobs progressed today, Offered up the harness just to double check the angle on the shoulder belts and also to sort out the anchor points for the lap belts. The shoulder belts are at 12deg which is well within the 20deg limit. However as a result of having the seat as low and as...

I spent ages thinking about dozens of different ideas and places to put the tank. I was nearly going to put something under the car on the opposite side from the exhaust but it was going to be a really tricky thing to make and was struggling to get 10-12ltrs, also if I needed to get to something...

Finally made it back up to the workshop! hopefully home for 3 weeks this time so should make some progress. I've got so many jobs to do it's difficult to decide what to do, so I opted for a relatively easy one to get started. I know side exit exhausts aren't to everyones liking but I have a...
