As said, the bulkhead only needs to be fluid proof so sticking those plates on isn't that bad, a few tacks and then sealed would be the preferred option.
The cage not being fully welded however is really poor! Are you able to get to these areas ok to weld them up properly? I assume they must be...
Cheers guys,
To my downfall sometimes though, take too freegin long to do stuff!!
They're actually M4 machine screws ;) but yeah, I may swap them for countersunk allen srews, although a pozi driver is probably easier to find than a tiny allen key!
Switchpanel is now finally nearing completion, or at least the physical aspect of actually making it is, still need to wire it all up!
I had it in primer at the begining of the week but decided I didnt like all the wee riveted bits of aluminium so it got attacked with the grinder!
It's now made...
Hmm, mine seem pretty sturdy, they only need to do another 2-3 shuffles in/out the workshop and they'll be redundant anyway.
Your not kidding! And when you think you've done it all, hoover it out, blow it all off with an air line and then go over it with some panel wipe and you'll see bit's...
Look forward to see what your doing with the strut towers ;)
I made this up a while ago, only used it a couple of times, its not attached to the car but it sits on it pretty well, guess you could put a ratchet strap round it if it was going over rough ground.
Used these castors, good for...
Wee update, Still waiting on the brake line to arrive, bit of a mix up on that one, now being sent from Goodridge place in Germany!
Meantime Ive been progressing with the dash and the switch panel,
Warning lights
Oil pressure warning will be in the main instrument pod, main switch panel is...
Sorry to hear your having to sell up Rhys, had the makings of a great car.
I've got a house purchase looming this year which might mean the progress on the car slows down and if worst comes to the worst I'll chuck a sheet over it and come back to it, would lose too much money to sell it.
I'm still working away at it ;)
I did make some progress over the holidays but nothing really worthy of an update. I was hoping to get some parts before everywhere shut down but unfortunately wasnt to be. Everything I ordered should be there by now so once I get home next week I'll get on with...
I hedged my bets on this when I picked the FD for the gripper box, as it stands, or at least on paper, my car should do about 125 @ 7500 in 5th
1st 49
2nd 68
3rd 86
4th 105
If and when I ever build a proper engine for it that'll safely go to 8k (ish) it should have the legs to cope with most...
All credit to you guys for having a go at this, I fully intended to move the roll centre in the same way you have, if you have a look in my thread you'll see when I posted the pics of what I had done ;) I've now got Cup Racer hubs and have decided to go this way instead for various reasons...
Thats good news though, be good to see some more stuff like that at knockhill, hopefully it'll gather some momentum, never know, I might even have a crack at it once I get mine finished ;)
Need to get the air saw and the hole cutters out!
I'm still finding wee bits I could have chopped off or...
No worries
I know a few guys using the Torques stuff, apart from one guy having some trouble assembling it, which turned out the hose i.d was right on the limit of being undersize and the fittings right on the limit of being oversize, the guy exchanged everything for him foc I think and it's...
Yeah its ptfe stuff, Goodridge 811 series, really nice to work with and assemble but it's fookin sore on the wallet! I managed to get a reasonable discount on it but still £££. Granted you can buy cheap stuff on ebay but when it comes to fuel, especially in the car, i'd sooner spend the money...
Cheapo rivnut tools seem to be a common pita just now, James mentioned the Memfast kit too, does it turn the cap head bolt in the rivnut to draw it in?
I try to avoid rivnuts if I can but some things there's no alternative, they usually work ok for a while but always find vibration gets to them...
Lol
No idea when it's going to finished, if it was just a case of bolting everything on I could take a reasonable guess at it but I've still got so many things I either need to make, or buy it's hard to say. Then I still need to get the outside painted, weather isnt ideal for that just now. I...
Wee bits of progress today, although some of it will need to come out again before the final assembly, just wanted to test fit a few things.
I sent the dashboard down to Banbury Flocking Services before I went away to work, they turned it round in less than a week and it was sitting at the house...
I ordered one of the Masterfix ones which look pretty substantial but the memfast ones look good too, ill see how I get on with this one. The one that broke was a cheapo thing I've had for years. I try to avoid using rivnuts if I can help it but there are some instances where there's not really...
Just realised I had a few pictures on my phone of what I did before I came offshore.
Started fitting up the fuel lines but I only managed to get 1 rivnut fitted then the gun packed in :dapprove: ordered a new one while I've been out here so will be able to crack on with that once I get home.
Just thought if you were opening the ports out you would end up removing the groove? But I assume its going to be right in between and leave you with part of it?
If you've got TIG facilities then I suppose its not too big a deal, but appreciate its still a pita! I take it there wasn't enough...
Haven't seen what your plan was regards fuel tank but I've still got my AA fabrications one sitting here, pictures in my thread, would let it go for £150, just to see it getting used, it cost several times that!
The infill sections on the bulkhead aren't too bad, I thought they were going to be a pain in the ass too. Use some 0.9mm sheet, easy to shape and easy to cut with tin snips. You'll need to make it in 3 possibly 4 bits per side and overlap them slightly, hardest bit is probably getting in round...
Not a problem, glad to be of some help. Mine is only 25x1.2, your's looks properly solid! Suppose the other X I've got on the bulkhead will help, I'm sure as hell not changing it now lol
Yeah, thats the shell done (I hope!) if there's anything else that needs doing to it I'll just need to drill and bolt or rivet it in place.
Engine bay now painted, few wee bits we couldnt get to with the gun, so I'll need to touch those in with a small art brush
Also decided to do...
Yeah dont worry, the bits that go in there will all be nice and shiny ;)
As far as I know that should be all the fabrication done on the shell but there are still various other bits to fabricate, off the top of my head;
Fibreglass box round swirl pot and lift pump
Finish switch/relay/breaker...
Cheers for the comments guys, nice to know you like it, just need to hope I can do it justice when it comes to pedalling it!
Minor update, decided to have a go at priming with a proper paint gun, didnt want to drag my mate up to do this wee bit, he just gave me a few pointers via text message...
