Yeah mine is the same as mcphee's it will not let me start it if it is not in the car. I would go and get it checked by Renault if you can get in and drive off whilst the key is not in the car

You can do a quote online via there website for fitting. So you could get an exact total cost. You just have to add the exhaust to you basket and then in you basket there is a "Get a workshop quote" button then they send you an email back with the price.

Yeah i am sure that it tells you to wipe it straight off the paint or trim if you get it on it. So i can't imagine it would be sensible to put it all over the paint.

Yeah may be didn't think of that. That would be the sensible choice yes, but has you have said nothing will come from it. You will just be told 6 months down the line that they haven't been able to prosicute anyone from the evidence supplied and then the report will be closed.
