I can't stretch to a set of ITB's I'm afraid, I'm hoping it'll be a reasonably cheap project as I have a 197 engine from my mate written off car and I can get an ECU at nearly cost as another mate is a Emerald dealer.
Think I'm going to get a 172 block and then build it all up first that way it...
Having read a few threads on this subject and having a 197 engine to hand it seems like a good idea.
From what I've read you just need to tap the 197 head for the water pump idler and it bolts straight on then you fit the 197 pistons, rods and crank into the 172 block and Roberts your Fathers...
Here's my times from the weekend with my 64ft on the far left, reasonable consistent with in about a tenth.
Is this about right for a virtaully stock ph1 172 engine (exhaust de-cat panel filter 98 re map) I'm on sticky Avon ZZR's.
The start line is normal tarmac an not prepared surface like a...
I have the 98 RON map on already worth having just for the raised rev limit, I can't see a Launch Control Map on the RS Tuner website, have you got a link?
Rich
Anyone have any opinions on a good launch control system for a 172?
I use it on my Cossie as it a built in feature on the EMU ECU as it holds the revs at a given point and retards the ignition and builts up the boost very loud but does the job.
I don't really want to go aftermarket ECU on the...
I forgot to mention that too for Hillclimbing only bother with the CL's in the front just a set of Mintex 1144 in the rear for a really nice balance.
Rich
Just tried googling this myself but with no answers.
I've got a dent in my Phase 1 tailgate and it's cheaper to buy a second hand Flame Red ph2 tailgate than to get my ph1 repaired but the lock button is different so as above can I change the barrel over and keep all my locks the same?
Cheers Rich
I might be completely wrong but I would have thought mounting them on the end of the shocks would be better way to reduce (twist) roll as they are the furthest point on the beam, where as where the beam mounts to the car there would be very little movement.
Like I said not being a geo guru I...
The Whiteline one mounts on the bottom of the rear shocks which I like where as the PMS one goes the otherway and mounts to the rear beam mounts.
Any thoughts why the different mounting and if it makes any difference?
Cheers Rich
The block used would also have to be one fitted to Clio in a normal production run, so either a 1400 clio block or indeed a sleeved down 2000cc block, wonder if you could just destroke with a change of crank as mentioned above.
Rich
Right then bare with me while I give a quick explanation as why I would want to use a 1400cc bottom end a supercharge it in a 172.
I currently run my Ph1 172 in the Midland Hillclimb Championship in Class A1 (Road Going Under 2000cc)
Under the regulations you can fit a supercharger or turbo...
I've searched quite a few old threads but with no definitive answer.
What's peoples opinions for the best Rear ARB?
Whiteline, K-Tec, PMS any others?
Cheers Rich
I have a Ph1 with none body coloured moldings and want to to change them for some Ph2 body coloured ones, I take it they are the same fitment?
Also same with the door handles?
Cheers Rich

I'm afraid it wouldn't have a prayer in A2 class with the 600bhp 4WD machines.
I'm over 4 seconds slower up Shesley Walsh in my Clio than in my Cossie and my PB is just under another 3 seconds off the Class Record.
The Clio needs to stay in A1, if I can stay best of the rest after the Elise's...
Cheers for that insightful piece of information
Dave West is rather rapid in his 106 GTi, I'll be up against him an Loton Park in 2 weeks.
What are the costs like on LSD's and a Short CWP?
I had to drop down into 1st for Pardon at Prescott which I don't really want to be doing need to be in...
A quick introduction for the previous 3 seasons I have competed in the Midland Hillclimb Championship in my 3 Door Sierra Cosworth but due to the engine lunching itself on the rollers 3 weeks before the season opener at Prescott I need an cheapish replacement so I bought a Flame Red 1999 172...
