Catch the Pigeon Sprint - April 2018
What a contrast to Castle Combe last week -
Castle Combe - top speed 120 mph, most straights about 100 mph;
Clay Pigeon Raceway - top speed about 60 mph, average speed about 40 mph (second gear all the way around).
Still enjoyed both events and I was...
Sadly I don't think I can do Portreath.... are you doing Castle hillclimb, near Lostwithiel? I believe the entry forms are out?
(Forgot to say ... Heather set a new outright record)
Hi Nathan
The only Audi I saw there was the SB Racing one -
It was a spaceframe jobbie with what seemed like a big V8 in it and the silhouette of an Audi ..... Beast!
Well..... that was interesting: Great Western Sprint, Castle Combe
First competition of 2018 and my own performance wasn't very good (more of that later). The real highlight was seeing the British Sprint Championship cars competing in the same event.
The following short video is of Heather...
Took the girl out of winter hibernation:
Oil and filter change;
Check over at Frampton Garage;
Weather forecast dry so take the RS3s off and put the Extreme VR2s back on;
Wash and brush up.
All ready now for the Castle Combe Sprint on Saturday :-) Anybody going to watch? I'm car 76 - drop...
Hi Nathan - good to hear from you. Yes, I hope to do the Torbay and Wildlife weekend at Wiscombe Park. I haven't put an entry in yet but will do tomorrow - Roy sent me the entry forms this morning.
So far I'm accepted for two events in 2018:
This weekend (24th March) is the long Castle Combe...
I think you should also look at the Kumho Ecsta V70A. .... They are now list 1C. I used them for about 6 seasons on the old Caterham (hillclimb, sprinting and trackdays - pretty good with 14 class wins in 2015). I generally used super soft compound but i think just soft compound may be ok for...
@a17vts ..... to wet your appetite for Sprints :-) I've just found this video that was produced a few days ago for Bristol Pegasus Motor Club - I like it because it shows the range of cars competing in a Sprint (and I'm in it quite a lot). Look out for the Audi Quattro - stunning.
I...
mmmm - seems a tad expensive - last march I paid £32 delivery for 4 tyres and last September I paid £36 - was your quote for 4 tyres ?
My experience is that I've found the Extreme VR2 (R5) faster than the R888R in competition (by comparing my dry times at Wiscombe Park hillclimb, Manor Farm...
Recommended as a cheap, semi slick trackday tyre...... but be careful not to go for too soft a compound.
I expect there will be quite a lot of interest this year in the VR1 tread pattern .... as a 'wet' tyre for Sprints and Hillclimbs (they are now listed as a 1B tyre by the UK Motor Sports...
Re the size of the bolt holes ..... yes, I think they may be smaller than standard but they do come with a set of new wheel bolts that match the wheels. I exchanged my new bolts for a set of 'Tuner' nuts as I already had studs fitted.
Re the question on centre caps: they came with the wheels - there are Calibre stickers to go on them but I haven't put them on.
another pic as requested.....
Re the wheels:
I put these on about 2 months ago - very pleased with them and they are lighter than 2118s.
I believe they are a clone of the 'Rays Gram Lights' which are very popular in the JDM market. Note that if you have a stud conversion you will need 'Tuner' nuts (as in pic).
Hi Marc .... yes, really good to see you. I think you should keep the Clio - it's such a solid car in really good condition. Add to that the amount of work you've put into it I think you would be mad to sell it.
Did you know that Rob T from WSM was marshalling for us? @Rob Thomson ...
The ST went very well ... second to the Lotus. The driver of the ST is a nice guy - Pete Goodman - he gave me loads of advice and encouragement about driving Castle Combe earlier this year. He's also the current record holder of our class at Castle Combe.
I'm not sure what power the Mountune...
Bristol Pegasus Sprint – Castle Combe circuit 21st Oct 2017 (part 2)
Snaps from around the paddock -
A trio of Clios ready for first practice:
A beautiful Audi Quattro in the RAC Rally livery:
Unusual vintage Volvo 544:
I think this is a Triumph Dolomite sprint:
Sadly two write...
Bristol Pegasus Sprint – Castle Combe circuit 21st Oct 2017
So my last event of 2017 – another year has flown by!
The weather is always a bit of a lottery at this time of year and 'Storm Brian' was hitting the UK on the day of the Bristol Pegasus sprint at Castle Combe. We arrived at 7.00 am...
I've used the Extreme VR2s for about 12 months now .... very, very popular competition tyre for sprinting and hill climbing. I've used the R5 / soft compound for competitions and the R7 / medium for track days ...... very, very good in the dry and I have no hesitation in recommending them for...
Nothing to do with me - but I just spotted these on Facebook and thought that at £45 a tyre they are very good value. Brand new, E-marked, road legal ..... and the S2 compound only came out this year so they can't be old tyres. Also the VR1 will be an MSA List 1B tyre from 1st January next...
Google Translate -
A complete Clio B RS 2.0 turbo engine is for sale. Wössner turbo pistons with H-shaft connecting rod from K-Tec were installed. Also from K-Tec a turbo manifold with stainless steel downpipe, programmable control unit GEN90 with software and dongle. GT 25 Turbocharger with 1...
@Rob Thomson ..... 'Good luck'.
Remember that the telegraph poles don't move and the straw bales are much, much heavier than you think.
PS - I know a good (i.e. cheap) body repair man in Dorchester :-)
Yes ..... my only other advice is check them regularly to make sure there are no stress cracks. At the slightest sign of any cracks then ditch them :-)
I think from a scrutineering point of view - if you have the right thickness of plate (5mm alloy), the right number of mounting points and the right size bolts you will be fine.
Interesting question...... The general MSA rules and regulations regarding seat mounting can be found in sections 2.2, 2.3.1, 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 of the 2017 Blue Book (Page 164 - picture below). It says 5 mm 'light alloy' is acceptable but note the number of fixings and the minimum bolt sizes...
Yes - its Bristol Pegasus Motor Club. Not to be confused with the other great club - Bristol Motor Club. The regulations and online entry form can be found on their website ... https://bristolpegasus.com/
It is restricted to 105 cars (iirc) - so it must be getting close to capacity now. I...
Hi Marc..... agreed, I'm not a fan of Manor Farm at Charmouth. I have had two accidents and both have been at Charmouth - hit the first telegraph pole in the Caterham and spun the Clio into a straw bale about 20 yards further on.
But I'm looking forward to Castle Combe - there should be quite...
