Sounds like you've already made up your mind and just looking for reassurance....none here I'm afraid, disaster waiting to happen unless you just share it as a track car pure and simple (in my opinion).
I run BC's, but my car is solely a track car so have done minimal road use since fitting them last June......BUT I think they'd be genuinely awesome on a road/daily car as when they're set to fully soft or a few clicks up they are so compliant on the road I've really impressed with the miles...
It's only 5th gear that's shorter not all the gears like on a 205 (I'm pretty sure)....north loop cup will be know costs but I don't think it's any more than £100 for the 5th gear alone?
Megane 5th gear is slightly lower, you'll notice on track how 5th always feels to high and makes the car feel sluggish (standard power cars especially)!
Finances have slowed up ordering anything diff wise as I've decided to get a cage before anything else, have got some stiffer front coilover springs though.
I'm leaning towards the quaiiffe if I'm honest, purely from a financial and convenience point of view (a gripper will cost at least 2k...
I've got bc's and really do rate them build quality wise and design etc for the money.....only issue I have is they only make the one rear spring rate, due to them not being a spring on coilover at the back (someone correct me if I'm wrong though but that was what I was told when I phoned them...
I phoned BC today about mine and they only offer the 8kg spring rate for the rear, due to the spring being a progressive design and not the linear type on a proper coilover....shame which I told their technical guy!
Only thing to bare in mind is that because they're an inboard spring the ratio...
I've already got a set actually and bought them from Kam Racing last year funnily enough! I'm toying with the idea of changing spring rates as they're too soft as supplied as their 'track' springs (5kg up front).....the only trouble is by ramping up the fronts so stiff it won't be very well...
What spring rates have you gone for with your BC's if you don't mind me asking, where did you get them from?
Looks good so far, mine's a track car only and coming on slowly......weight saving is on my list but just all adds up so quickly buying fibreglass panels etc doesn't it!!
That's the way I see it.....but people seem to think harder means quicker, and race car setups certainly tend to go along with that? I know they like the cars to move around a lot under braking etc.
Without anyone giving me setup tips etc of course it's only trial and error but mine on a softer...
Thanks, just replied to one thread now.
Not going to lie I'm a little apprehensive when buying 2nd hand, My idea of mint never seems to match other people's!
Think if I was going for them I'd get brand new, would be nice to read more positive things about the main distributor though!!
I'm not sure going stupidly stiff on the back offers better handling for the average joe....my friends car with the 650/450 springs and pms strengthened beam etc doesn't seem to get round any quicker but might be harder to drive quickly?!
I'm happy to experiment with springs it's just getting...
Thanks for all the replies, leaning towards another quaiffe I think.....why are they so expensive for Clio's haha!!
@Northloop, is the quaiiffe a direct fit, or is there work involved in fitting?
Bar the gearing side of things, which I realise must make al the difference but will really come into its own when racing other clio's with a near identical spec where every car length helps.....what driving/handling characteristics will the gripper have over a quaiffe? How much difference does...
Following on from my other thread about spring rates, I'm also looking to get my gearbox rebuilt over winter as a preventative measure for my crunchy 3rd/4th synchro's and toyed with the idea of getting a LSD put in at the same time.
I had a quaiffe atb in an old rs turbo track car I had and it...
Ahh right, ok great cheers.....I've sent Mick at KPM a message regarding changing the rates on my BC's so I'll see what he comes back with as to how easy it is to get hold of springs and any revalving that may be needed!
I'd said 9/12kg so not a bad guess. A friend has had Gaz Golds built with...
Funnily enough I had thought about going up to 9/10kg up front.....not too sure what to do with the rear, whether to double that as well inline with the fronts?
What suspension do you run (track car?)
Front 5kg/rear 8kg. Front is way too soft, on hard cornering it's pitching over loads and bottoming out the suspension....wheel tucks up so hard it hits the inside of the arch (not the liner)!
Bought a clio 182 before last summer and built it into a reasonable spec track car to have some fun in, but unsure as to specs etc have had to learn along the way! Did 5 days over the summer at castle combe (my local track), and whilst having a lot of fun have found the weaknesses now so looking...
What is it with this Curtis guy at AST.....literally never read a good word about the bloke/company yet everyone raves about the product. So off putting when they're not exactly a cheap set of coilovers, last thing I want is hassle and false promises when I buy good stuff! Doesn't seem to be any...
Nut and bolt through from the top, m12 I think it was...had one shear when undoing one of my subframe bolts to fit an anti roll bar.
Knock the old one out and away you go!
Did you get problems with overheating with the standard thermostat?
Mine never goes above the normal temp no matter how hard I thrash it on track so can't see any reason to fit a low temp stat to be honest.
Thanks for the quick reply, the 5mm was what I had planned on going for just to bring them in line with the et38 I'm running at the moment.....if I'd known I'd have bought the et38 in the first place but they only come in white!
Stud and nut kit will make wheel changes so much easier I'll...
Got a set of speedline 2118's to go on in et43 and don't think they're going to fill the arches well enough so some spacers are going to be needed......I'm on et38 turini's at the moment so do I just got for 5mm all round (and if so where and what is best to buy) or 10mm all round for a bit more...
